I have Started this Discussion for Posting the View

Some says it come with EVDO, But as per the TRAI Recommendation

Reliance can not have EVDO and WCDMA Both, Reliance is already testing WCDMA in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and in Hawroh

i think u r correct as they both are very different technologies.

As reliance has license for both GSM & CDMA (in few circles like MP, bihar, WB etc), they can also upgrade to WCDMA & EVDO in GSM & CDMA resp.

But don't know whether govt would allow or not?

Technical point of view EV-DO is superior technology I think relience will either move to EV-DO or directly to HSDPA. This way they can save upgrade to almost outdated WCDMA.

evdo stands for evolution data optimised is a technolgy which supports a theortical data speeds of up to 2mbps speed.

in US this technoligy is giving minium of 700kbps internet bandwidth , so same can be possible here also but it takes ages for us to get such speeds in india

Here is my some Calcumations

As there are Problem in 1900 mhz Only One Operator can use EVDO in 1900 and CDMA 800/850 is already congeste for Full EVDO here can give to only one operator,

But in WCDMA / HSDPA 5 Operators can be There

So Tata will go in EVDO

All Other

BSNL

Airtel

Hutch

Idea

Reiance

Will Opt for WCDMA or Directly go to HSDPA

But EVDO is Multi Channel Technology it is more Frequency Efficient and Power Saving Tech that WCDMA or HSDPA

But in HSDPA

We will have more range of Compatible Handsets. (Again the OLD Million Dollor Question)

DoT asks Tatas to put EVDO plans on hold

The Department of Telecom has asked Tata Teleservices to delay the launch of data services based on the EVDO (evolution data optimised) technology until the Government spells out the policy for third generation (3G) services.

Mr Daryl Green, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Teleservices, told Business Line that though the company was ready to offer 3G services it did not have the permission to even conduct pilot tests. "We have been told verbally to put off our launch of EVDO services till later this year. If we get the permission we can start services tomorrow. We can offer 3G services using the existing spectrum but DoT feels that the 800 Mhz is a 2 G radio frequency and therefore we should wait till the 3G spectrum is released."

EVDO is the next generation technology being offered by CDMA-based operators in other parts of the world to offer high speed broadband on wireless handsets. The technology allows operators to use the existing radio frequency to offer 3G services. On the other hand, GSM-based operators need spectrum that has been earmarked for 3G services. In India, Reliance Infocomm is also making plans to roll out EVDO services. If Tatas are allowed to deploy EVDO, it would get at least a six-month head start compared with GSM-based operators.

However, Mr Green downplayed the impact of the delay. "3G is not really big as of now for us, so we can wait.

Even if were to launch services after the DoT nod, still we will get a head start because GSM operators will take a while to roll out their network based on the Wide band CDMA (W-CDMA), and in my experience, it's not going to be very easy for them," said Mr Green.

Tata Teleservices has earmarked an investment of Rs 4,000 crore this fiscal and has set a target of reaching 20 million subscribers by the end of this fiscal.

Meanwhile, the Government today said that spectrum for 3G services would be released by the end of the year. The telecom regulator has also been asked to give its recommendations on issues relating to pricing for the 3G spectrum.

RCOM may go in for wireless broadband link

Kolkata: RelianceCommunications is working on the possibility of launching EV-DO (wireless broadband data connectivity) for its 28 million CDMA users.

EV-DO stands for Evolution-Data Optimised or Evolution-Data only and is typically used to provide ‘broadband-speed’ internet access to mobile telephone subscribers. Loosely put, EV-DO in CDMA is equivalent to 3G in GSM network — both offers high speed, broadband data connectivity that allows features like streaming video, watching online movies and high-speed internet. “We are working on the possibility of introducing EV-DO for our CDMA subscribers.

However, there are a lot of factors that need to be evaluated and we are yet to take a final decision,” SP Shukla, president personal business told ET. 3G, stands for third generation standard for GSM networks and wide-area wireless voice telephony, and broadband wireless data, in a mobile environment.

It is a wireless radio broadband data standard adopted by many CDMA mobile phone service providers in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, Russia, Brazil, and Australia. EV-DO allows same data download and upload speed as is available for 3G. Interestingly, BSNL is also looking at the possibility of launching EV-DO for its CDMA subscribers.

Talking about Reliance Communication’s plans for the east, Mr Shukla said that the company intends to cover 9,000 towns in east by the end of the fiscal. Currently, it has covered only 2,000 in this region. Nationally, Reliance Communications has decided to cover 22,000 town by the end of the year against 10,000 now.

Incidentally, Reliance Communications on Wednesday slashed its tariff for life time validity package to Rs 222 from Rs 495 for its GSM users in all its eight circles. Lifetime validity allows customers to remain connected for life time without paying any extra amount.

However, to make call one has to refill the mobile with coupons of certain denominations. It has simultaneously launched a GSM handset at package offer with pre-paid connection and life time validity at Rs 1,234.

WCDMA OR EV-DO

WCDMA is a GSM based technology, so is HSDPA.

so if reliance wants to opt for WCDMA technology nation-wide, first they should have a GSM network all over the country, as of now their GSM national plan is not take off due to spectrum issue (as far a my info goes)

TRAI has asked reliance to surrender a part of their CDMA spectrum if they want to go for GSM

So for now if there has to be a nation-wide 3G service from reliance

it has to be on their CDMA network and EV-DO is the only way to go for now.

In Moritiuos Some Operator only Have WCDMA and had never erved with GSM if reliance want Fresh Entry in GSM Platform They Start Fresh by WCDMA in New Zeeland one Operator have Swithced from CDMA to WCDMA,UMTS, HSDPA only thing here is Consumer dont get flavor of both like in GSM + WCDMA Here Reliance would have to Install WCDMA All over India for Roaming and Coverage and WCDMA User from Reliance can have Roaming in Other GSM based 3G Networks also
