yes its live

Idea TV uses progressive download for playing video. Progressive download means the application initially downloads some part of video file (buffers it), and then it starts playing the video file. While playing the video file, it simultaneously gets remaining part of the video file. This way you get the advantage that user need not wait for full download of the clip. Progressive download happens over http.

Here you get the advantage that you are able to start playing 5 minutes of clip within 1 ½ to 2 minutes. If you have to do this over pure WAP http download and play user will have to wait as long as 8 to 9 minutes before the clip can be started. Also this is better compared to full streaming as in progressive download the quality of the played clip is same a Presenting IDEA TV.

Client automatically downloads commercials whenever it finds additional network bandwidth. Server and client automatically manage this.

Progressive download over HTTP? What a load of crap. AFAIK, Idea uses GSM network. It doesn't have EDGE, EvDO or other high speed data connections. So its upto GPRS to manage. GPRS gives ****y speeds. At such speeds its impossible to "stream" live tv. Was it possible on your 56Kbps dialup modem? Nope. So why will it be possible on this??

Umm...one more thing, HTTP is the WORST PROTOCOL when it comes to streaming. RTSP is what is needed for "REAL" streaming. So its a whole load of crap from Idea. What do they think of the consumer? Are we stupid?

@manishag

My dear friend its Rs.150/- only for the 20 channels which will be streamed in the starting phase and not for all channels. The subscriber have to shell out GPRS usage charges extra apart from Rs.150/- monthly.

Regards.
