  1. Because they know whenever they launch, with pathbreaking offers, they will attract huge attention and subscribers. However, I am a bit confused regarding what happened to rollout obligations. It's already 5 years, ideally they should be sent notices by DOT as they not even started and they should have provided i guess 90 per cent coverage till now.
  2. Vodafone had bought 1800 mhz spectrum in some circles (around 8 mhz in delhi) in 2014 auctions. This is liberalized spectrum and can be used for 2G as well as 4G spectrum. Like Idea bought 5 mhz of 900 mhz spectrum in delhi and used it to launch its 3G services in Delhi. 1800 mhz is efficient spectrum than 2300 mhz held by Airtel , Reliance Jio for 4G services in Delhi. Lower the frequency better results as you have to deploy lesser towers. You have better indoor coverage. Therefore, Vodafone if launches 4G services on 1800 mhz spectrum could be more efficient.
  3. What I feel on this is that CDMA is much efficient technology as compared to GSM. Qualcomm the parent of CDMA technology is the main factor for CDMA's failure. Qualcomm takes royalty for sharing its technology source code with handset makers. They charged highest loyalty for handsets in India as compared to 2 per cent in other countries. This discouraged handset makers like Nokia, LG, Samsung to stay in manufacturing CDMA handsets. For GSM handsets companies do not have to pay any royalty to any company. If Qualcomm could have done away with its greed for charging royalty, India could have proved a game changer for the technology, you never know....
  4. Happy New Year 2015!

Wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!!
  5. These operators feel that we have reduced our bills by using OTT top up apps like whatsapp and viber. Then these operators should be reminded that we are already paying huge amounts of monthly rent (Rs. 250) for 1 GB 3G internet which fluctuates to 2G in certain pockets of the city. Then we have minimum Rs. 200 as monthly rent for voice plan. Operators want to charge standard prices for SMS on festivals. Thus I spend Rs. 450 as monthly rent (Rs. 200 for voice and Rs. 250 for 3G). Add to it the expensive data charges for exceeding 1 GB. What else they want from us. One day they will even charge us even if we unlock our phone. Airtel is the main culprit. Mr. Mittal is very greedy. If he has his way, he will charge us for reading messages, incoming calls, unlocking phone, charging our phone battery, buying a new phone, switching off our phone, switching on our phone, roaming, not roaming and the list goes on and on. But they will not take any initiate to improve their network. Basically, they want to **** even the last drop of blood from our body.
  6. Yeah, I know that... But I am talking about (lack of) Bangalore Live Signal to Chetan ji... But here, the single towers are already fitted with equipments in Dec first week itself, but NO live signal yet, afaik... Signal will not go live as soon as tower is installed . Once all the planned BTS are installed, sites are powered ON and testing is followed. i Believe DOT would have been allowed to test the network by switching on nearby BTS and later switched off. Imagine RJIO completes its rigrous testing in Dec 2015. As soon as they complete their PHD in testing and are ready to launch. They get a letter from DOT stating : "With deep sorrow and grief we have to inform you that since you did not meet our rollout obligations, your license stands cancelled". :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
  7. They do not have pan india licence : 2300 mhz. However, if they use spectrum (1800 mhz) won in Feb''14 auction for 4G they can be pan india player.
  8. Airtel has already launched their 4G services in couple of cirlces and I guess aircel has also launched in one circle. RJIO has advantage of pan india licence which is why they are taking their own sweet time to launch their services.
  9. Airtel has launched 4G in couple of circles. I understand RJIO is a new player and did not have tower, infrastructure of their own. But in 4 years after entering in agreements with Reliance Communication, Airtel for tower sharing, RJIO has not even be able to launch services in a single city or district, leave aside a single circle. Now they want 5 years more. I guess we should open our doors for foriegn players and provide international players subsidies and priviliges so they come to India and invest rather than trusting these desi players. Even after 6 years after launch rcom is still struggling. Players like Telenor are doing better than them.
  10. I don't understand if they start charging for messaging apps like Whats app and voip calling apps like viber etc, what is the need for taking their 3G plans. Even if I have to ocasional browsing or things like online shopping on flipkart app etc, it can wait wait till the evening when I return home and can use broadband connection at my home. Why should I pay Rs. 250 extra for 3G tariff.
  11. Don't worry RJIO is coming. It will blow their a** . Airtel has always been greedy. In terms of tariff hikes and reducing the freebies, it has been the leader. In terms of improving their network and customer service they are least bothered. I ported one of my vodafone number to Airtel. I get two network bars on my phone for airtel while using 3G in my home in New Delhi. When I use 2G only, then I get full bars. They told me that they will put another tower. I told them the issue is not with their network coverage. Maybe there is some signal interference when using 3G. Though I am a layman. But their engineers are least bothered and are looking forward to put a new tower near my place.
  12. Coverage is not that great monopole 4g towers very less efficient, i have seen 10+ towers in 2 sq. Km. Area near my home in jaipur. Hope that doesn't affect your and people living there's health.
  13. I am facing problems connecting Airtel Broadband for past couple of days. I contacted customer care today. They told me that the problem is persisting throughout North India. They gave TAT for 8 PM today but the problem is still there. Never experienced such a problem since 2008 when took airtel connection. Wonder if anybody else is facing same issue.
  14. Reliance Customer Care is not responding

Reliance is no more interested in CDMA. I switched to Vodafone for my Dad's number.
  15. Even Mukesh Ambani is confused about launch date and city. Dates have been revised numerous times. Apart from this, have heard about services launch in different cities in different news reports. In one of the article, it was stated that it will be launched in Delhi first, in one report it was said it will be Mumbai. Heard about North East being the first for launch as well. Hope this news excerpt is not from Punjab Kesri. I will not be surprised if the licence for Reliance Jio is cancelled due to not meeting the rollout obligations.

Over 1,500 MHz Spectrum Likely to be Available by 2015 About 1,538 MHz of spectrum in various bands for telecom services may be made available for auction next year, a move that will help the government expand mobile and broadband penetration in the country. In the premium 700 Mhz band, which can be used for 4G and is even being considered for 5G services, 93 MHz of radiowaves can be put for sale. In the 800 MHz (CMDA), 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands 117.5 MHz, 184 MHz and 104 MHz, respectively, can be made available, sources said. In 2,300 MHz band (broadband wireless access spectrum) 320 MHz spectrum and in the 2,500 MHz band, about 720 MHz could also be put on the block for sale, they added. Besides, the government expects to make available a fresh set of 300 MHz spectrum for mobile services by 2017 and an additional 200 MHz by 2020. Sources said that almost all of the spectrum in 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz will be available through the expiry of licences as well as that unsold in the last conducted auction. For 700 MHz band, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended that the reserve price for the spectrum should be four times of that of the 1,800 MHz band. The 700-Mhz frequency band is considered to be one of the most valuable slots for telecom services as most of the latest technology can be transmitted in this band. Also investment required to roll out infrastructure will be lower for telecom companies in 700 Mhz compared to using higher frequency. Spectrum auction in the last four years has fetched the government about Rs. 1.75 lakh crore, which includes Rs. 61,162 crore this year from auction in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz band and Rs. 1.05 lakh in 2010 in 2,300 MHz and 2,500 MHz. Government has set a revenue target of Rs. 45,471 crore from communication services, including proceeds from spectrum auction and other related charges in the current fiscal year (2014-15). Additionally, there are plans to make available 85 MHz spectrum in the 2,100 MHz band - currently used for 3G services - but that will be subject to release by the Defence Ministry, sources said. Availability of spectrum will aid the government in achieving the objectives in the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012. According to NTP 2012, the government aims to increase rural tele-density from the current level of around 39 to 70 by the year 2017 and 100 by the year 2020. Besides, it aims to provide affordable and reliable broadband on demand by 2015, to achieve 175 million broadband connections by the year 2017 and 600 million by the year 2020, at minimum 2 Mbps download speed and making available higher speeds of at least 100 Mbps on demand.
  18. Reliance Gsm Coverage

It has been around 6 years since Reliance launched its GSM services. I agree, it has improved from how it started. But unfortunately, still it has connectivity issues. I have seen issues while travelling in car, in basements are no network coverage in certain pockets of the city. The company should have benefitted from tower sharing agreements it has entered with Tata , Aircel etc and should have bought additional spectrum in auctions in Feb. But the vision of the company is not clear.
  19. Not sure why the UPA government did not include a clause of roll out obligations.
  20. Don't worry DOT is about to finalize rollout obligations for 3G and 4G spectrum which ideally they should have done before auctioning the spectrum. Though RJIO is slow mover but still I would say they are working. However, there are no updates from operators like Augere and Tikona whether they will launch their services or sell off. Meanwhile, I would like to appreciate efforts of Airtel which seems to be serious in providing in services. They have already launched 4G services in couple of service areas when 4G ecosystem is yet to evolve. They have 4G spectrum in Delhi by virtue of buying Qualcomm's license but still they are launching first in non metro areas.
  21. People are working long hrs 6 days a week, and it is a game changing technology, many do not understand that 4g lte rollout at this scale over this large geography has never been done before anywhere in the world, that is why wait for a bit http://www.lightreading.in/lightreadingindia/news-analysis/296135/800-mhz-strategically-critical-rjio It’s been close to four years since Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance has had pan-India spectrum for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the 2300 MHz bands. However, it is yet to roll out 4G LTE services using the spectrum even when rival Bharti Airtel has launched the services in a few select cities. The recent news crumbs that Reliance Jio Infocomm could choose cities like Coimbatore and Indore for the initial launch also indicate that the Indian telecom’s new giant-in-making may not yet be ready to take big-bang strides. Why so, even after the haul of frequencies in 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz bands? Why did RJio seemed bothered about keeping the 800 MHz clean? (See Why RJio Wants A Clean 800 MHz?) Well, it is now commonly understood that RJio, which earlier seemed to enjoy an unmatched head-start through a pan-India 2300 MHz spectrum win, is still busy stitching the other pieces together. While it has firmed up a series of infrastructure sharing deals for its LTE offerings, gaps remain all over. In fact, the technological developments in the area of LTE also mean that an erstwhile 2300 MHz asset could have turned a strategic disadvantage that RJio must figure out to handle tactically. Most likely, it has already has, and would likely be using those frequencies for backhauling purposes. RJio’s recent participation in the 1800 MHz auctions only validates that likelihood. That brings one to the assumption that for the access part of its LTE network, Reliance Jio could be using 1800 MHz, the liberalization of which is also a big reason behind changing the course for LTE operators in India away from TD-LTE and in favor of FD-LTE. In fact, ever since the telecom service licenses were delinked from the spectrum, the pan-India LTE presence potential that RJio originally enjoyed has been under real threat. So that should remove the disadvantages that technological and policy changes had effected for RJio, isn’t it? Probably not! Simply because while the 78 MHz of frequencies that Reliance Jio won in the February 2014 auctions for 1800 MHz bands would be good to begin with, there could be crunching pressures as the number of subscribers and network usage rises down the line. The 1800 MHz bands are already crowded and large chunks of contiguous frequencies would be hard to realize. So it’s important to secure contiguous bands of spectrum elsewhere and preferably so in a more efficient band. A long-term option for that would be to participate in a 700 MHz auction when it comes up. (900 MHz is already more scarce and pricier than 1800 MHz, so that’s obviously not a good option and no wonder RJio stayed away from that auction.) But if Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Rahul Khullar’s statement earlier this year is to be considered then a 700 MHz auction may not be round the corner. Khullar was reported saying that such an auction would be unlikely before 2015-16. That smells of an uncertainty, especially given the history of previously delayed auctions, and RJio strategists should certainly feel alarmed and scout for alternatives. The 800 MHz bands, presently used by the CDMA players in India, could offer an alternative. Given that there only are a handful of CDMA players in the country and even the CDMA subscriber base is small, the bands are relatively uncrowded. However, if both CDMA and LTE airwaves are to populate the bands then it raises the possibility of interferences. So when RJio complained that 4G could interfere with 800 MHz band, RJio’s interests in 800 MHz became quite evident. A positive outcome for RJio was that the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) responded favorably, stating that use of appropriate filters and guard bands would help in mitigating the problem. The 800 MHz is a future-proofing that RJio would like to have in place before going for a big-bang launch of its LTE services. It remains to be seen if that happens through an auction or an acquisition.Read more at: http://www.lightreading.in/lightreadingindia/news-analysis/296135/800-mhz-strategically-critical-rjio?utm_source=referrence_article
  22. Reliance Jio may start 4G service from smaller cities Jun 5, 2014, 10.32 AM IST This will only be clear once they launch the service. Since inception, there have been different stories about their launch date and place.
  23. Different types of SIM cards

In Delhi I could see only Vodafone selling these type of SIMS. I recently bought airtel SIM. I have IDEA sim as well but no body is selling such SIMs. Meanwhile, I personally I don't like these SIMs and feel there should be a separate micro SIM. The companies are migrating to these SIMs to do cost cutting.
  24. Different types of SIM cards

Vodafone Delhi is now selling 3G ready smart sims as shown in the picture below. You dont need a sim cutter or adapter anymore. These smart SIM can be used as a normal sim or micro sim. For nano sims a cutter can be purchased from Ebay etc or local shops and vodafone/airtel stores can help in cutting them. They are better equipped in cutting SIMs.
