  10. Leading telecom service provider Bharti Airtel on Friday hiked call tariffs by 20% in six major circles including New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The hike in tariff will be passed on to pre-paid customers as well. Tariffs have been hiked from 1 paise per second to 1.2 paisa per second. Sources say that other telecom players will follow suit. Bharti Airtel stock price rallied by 4% and was trading at Rs 411 at 2:50 PM on the BSE. Bharti Airtel added 2.12 million mobile subscribers in June, taking its total to 169.2 million, data from Cellular Operators Association of India said. India is the world's second-biggest mobile-phone market after China. Bharti, the fifth-largest mobile operator globally by subscribers, operates in 19 countries in South Asia and Africa. Earlier this month, Bharti Airtel announced it was streamlining its India and South Asia operations to create a leaner cost structure in order to boost its financial performance. The restructuring comes as Bharti battles fierce domestic competition that has slashed call rates and is grappling with high interest costs on debt accumulated to purchase mobile licences in India and to expand into Africa. Bharti paid $10.7 billion last June for the Africa business of Kuwaiti telecom operator Zain. Its interest costs have soared due to the African purchase as well as from paying $3.3 billion to buy third-generation ( 3G )) spectrum in India to offer mobile and wireless broadband services. 13. Source: Bhaskar News | Last Updated 17:03(11/08/11 If a mobile number does not have any outgoing or incoming calls for more than twenty days, the services to the number will be terminated and the number can be re-allotted, according to the TRAI rule. If you think buying a lifetime mobile connection actually gives you as much of a lifetime, think again. According to new rules from Telecom Regulations Authority of India (TRAI) the services to your number with lifetime validity can be terminated within twenty days. The rule allowed a period of 180 days before the services were terminated for non-use. Either a recharge or an incoming or outgoing call within 180 days allowed the customers to keep their services intact. Later in 2010, the period was reduced to 90 days. No prior public notice for the new rule TRAI had introduced the new rule three months ago but there has been no public notice regarding the new rule till date. Even the service provider companies have failed to inform their customers. TRAI clarifies its stand Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TRAI Yogendra Srivastava said people are using more than one SIM card and several of these SIM cards remain unused. He further said the TRAI decided to change rules to ensure that these SIM cards are not misused. TRAI will certainly publicise the new rules so that the customers do not face any problems, he added. Customers, companies suffer Meanwhile, the companies and customers have a list of complaints against the new rule that has been introduced without any prior notice. A distributor of Kasturi Telecom Priyanka Agrawal said the customers are coming with complaints due to this cancellation of number in 20 days. The service provider companies are not better off. Senior officials with a service provider said the new rule is causing huge losses to the customer base of the companies. They further said the customers hold the company guilty for the deactivation of their numbers while we do not have any choice but to follow TRAI rules. 22. Soon after Airtel and Idea, Aircel the country’s 5th largest cellular operator is now following the trend of hiking its tariffs. This is the first bold move from any operator in Tamil Nadu circle which has the maximum market share in the state. Aircel is the No.1 operator in Tamil Nadu and Chennai. In the lines of maximising its profitability Aircel has also made changes in the tariff structure. In an exclusive user feedback we got he reported to have received an sms from Aircel [DT-Aircel] stating about the hike in charges. The following charges are made effective from 25th July. 00:00Hrs. Base Plan tariff is being revised from early 1p/s to 1.2p/s for all local and STD on net calls and from 1.2p/s to 1.5p/s to other local and STD along with landlines. Other charges being constant. Now we hope to see other operators to follow the trend as within days of Airtel raising the tariff other biggies have started to follow an alliance of raising equally. Now its just wait and watch game. Source:- http://telecomtalk.info/aircel-tariff-hike-tamil-nadu/72394/#more-72394
  23. One thing to take note of, that all the operators Airtel/Idea/Aircel hv a hike in tarrif till date only in the circle where they are market leaders not in the circles where they want to establish themself, so lets hope the smaller player in their respective circle will not hike tarrif....
