I have an EVDO enabled MTS OMH SIM.
I often use it for browsing etc.
but since my handset is 1x, I could never experience EVDO.
I always connect with 1x speed and its always a consistent 10-12KBps download speed.
I always want to test MTS internet connectivity while in motion (such as while traveling in a car or Metro)
but i guess it will be embarrassing to use my PPC 6700 outside my home :-/
so, inside my home (in delhi) an EVDO enabled MTS OMH SIM on ppc 6700 (which is 1x) gives a consistent 10-12KBps download speed.
I will post about my EVDO experience when i get an EVDO handset.
What r charges for using browsing on handset? does it open all sites?
How did u got RUIM ebabled PPC?
1) Its a 'Jugaad' SIM/RUIM. A friend who is an MTS dealer provided this RUIM to me. I connect to internet without any restrictions.
2) I got this PPC (6700) from another friend. it has a RUIM slot soldiered in a crude manner below its battery (and it works perfectly). though its programmed and was locked to Reliance, i have changed its setting to 'RUIM only' (you know it).
If anyone is interested in buying this phone let me know

EVDO Rev.A is referred to as HSIA – this technology gives data transmission speeds of upto 3.1Mbps downlink.
Thanks for clarifying me on this.

@ni0987, Is it a OMH handset?
I mean, Can I insert any operator's(RCOM/TATA Indicom/Virgin/MTS/BSNL) RUIM and get 3.1 Mbps speed?
I too think its an OMH handset as the box didn't have any operators logo/name.

I found this MTNL-Delhi website today:
Waiver for MNP port-in charges w.e.f 04.01.2011-Waiver of port-in charges for Rs. 19/- for customers-SMS request for UPC to be charged at normal SMS rate as per customer's existing planis the 'UPS' mentioned here belongs to 'MNP'?
if yes, what does it mean?

I am not able to find this handset in delhi.
i checked with three tata indicom showrooms and none of them even knew about it.
later i wrote to their customer care to tell me from where can i buy this phone
and they sent me a list of all of their dealers in india.
I wrote them back to tell me addresses of only one or two dealers who have this handset available
and the customer care haven't replied yet.
someone please tell me from where can i buy this handset in delhi.
thanks,

Two days back i entered a micromax store looking for an EVDO handset.
The sales person showed my this handset.
soon i notices something was missing from the information provided on Box.
though it was highlighting '3.1Mbps' speed, it nowhere mentioned EVDO (so, nothing about revisions also).
instead it used a different term HSIA (High Speed Internet Access).
the salesman proudly told me, 'you can watch TV on this'.
and when i asked if it can be used as a modem, he said 'sorry, it can't be'.
at first i felt sad, but later it occurred to me that the salesman could be wrong
as the device is capable of providing a high speed data connect but not able to connect to a PC as a modem,
which is a bit peculiar.
I checked on micromax website but it too, doesn't say anything about its modem capability.
only someone, who has bought this phone can reveal the truth.
anyone?

I don;t think its any *OMH Problem*.
I too have an OMH SIM,
and use it to connect to internet with my PPC 6700 handset using Opera mobile/UC_web/explorer.
I use it as a modem also,
but never faced the problems you mentioned.
I guess you need to make proper settings for the access point.

I visited a local shop which quoted 5200 for this mobile is it a good buy for this price or would it be wise to spend another 1000 or so and buy the Mpowertxt please help me decide
i live in delhi, and a shopkeeper was willing to give me this phone for Rs 4800. Find out if you can find a better (than Rs 5200) deal in chennai.
regarding comparison with MPower Txt, check their individual specifications at official site.

Yes the phone connects well with linux as a modem. Tested on Debian lenny. Modem was autodetected by Network-Manager.
Let me know if you want more info.
Thanks
Thanks buddy,
I am sorry for this late reply.
I had an exam today and didn't touch my laptop for past 3 days
I had made all my plans for this phone but, someone posted information about a Rev A device here.
I guess i will go check this Huawei phone first. Hope its really OMH.

Guys,
I am planning to buy this phone (Mpower TV S239) soon. I have a few questions:
- Some people have observed that only signed apps can be installed on this handset. I guess nokia phones have some security setting for signed apps which can be turned off that allows installation of unsigned apps. have you people tried to find such security setting in your S239? Is it really there or not?
- It was said earlier that S239 has same port for charging & data transfer (USB). Does it charges itself when connected to PC as a modem? its actually a helpful feature
- Linux users, have you tried this phone as modem with linux? please mention the linux flavour/version and the method to connect it.
Thank you all
Nimod

I have been using MTS for past 8 months in delhi. certainly it has a good network. in 8 months i experienced very few call drops (not more than 5). I use a lo-end MTS branded handset.
Signals, good everywhere except in Metro underground lines. I don;t know about signal strengths in basement of buildings.
I have a very limited outgoing phone calls requirement and MTS offers many options for me. I guess i will stick MTS for a long time.
Even for heavy users they offer good options. recently i came to know they are offering unlimited local calls @275/- per month.
And the best you can do is, enter any MTS store, tell them your general usage pattern and they will tell you what options are there for you.
Regards.

Don't be amused my friend. I am not going to sell it now.
How would I be able to connect to internet without this phone?
