Has Anybody Installed Java Application In Lg Cdma 3500/3600/6100 ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anybody tried installing java application in any of 3xxx (like 3500, 3510, 3600 etc) or 6xxx (6100, 6200 etc) series LG CDMA phone ? Does reliance let you install application from outside R-world ? For those who want to try, they can try installing one from http://minkle.in/m/private.php . Open the url in your phone browser & click on 'Download Minkle' to install the application.

I am looking for a cheap LG java enabled phone on which a java application can be installed & works fine outside the R-world. Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ashish

P.S. - the application is professional & completely safe. It has tested to work fine on most of the GSM phones & high end CDMA phones like Blackberry & HTC (courtsey - Vikas & Hitesh from the forum)

Hi guys,

If you have LG 6100 or any other java enabled reliance CDMA phone with camera under the price of Rs 5000 and you are in mumbai/bangalore, we would need your help to test a few things on your phone. We would pay you for your help/time. We are ready to come down to your place to get the required testing done. We have a java application which we need to test on such a phone before suggesting the same to our client.

If everything goes fine, we might as well buy the handset, you can quote your own price for the same :).

Interested people can reach me at 95 3838 4545 with your hourly rate :).

@pocha - First thing any LG 3XXX and 6XXX wont allow you to open a URL, the only RWorld homepage can be opened which is embedded in the Firmware itself, you cant open any website, hence your software cant be installed.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for commenting & sorry for delayed response. Somehow i did not get an email intimation of reply being posted on the thread.

Ya, we were planning to buy the handset to test, i did not know if it was that easy to sell, but now since you have told the same, i think we would go ahead & do it. I was trying to check with people who already have the phone.

One doubt - from whatever knowledge i have about the new RUIM based phones (like LG 6100), there is no default firmware etc. Is it like - if i purchase the handset from reliance web-world, there would be the default firmware which would not let open any other site except R-world. What if, the handset is bought from outside & RUIM is being put from reliance. Will it then be able to access other websites ?

These questions might look dumb, but i am pretty much a newbie when it comes to CDMA & reliance. We would definitely buy a handset once we know things a little better, so that we dont end up buying 2-3 different kind of handsets because of lack of knowledge.

Hi Hitesh,

As i told you before, the requirement is for a client. They already have a tie-up with reliance & they would procure the handsets themselves, we just need to suggest a handset model to them. Not sure if bb7130 would come up that cheap if bought from the regular sales channel. Correct me if i am wrong.

I posted the thread after our discussion, only because nokia 3125 does not have a camera. Going ahead, the client has the requirement of the application being able to take a picture, store it & then send it over the air to our server. Since LG 6100 has a camera, i thought it would be a better bet.

I posted the question to see if media access JSR are supported in LG 6100. To access camera, start & stop, JSR 135 needs to be implemented in the j2me version of the phone. There is absolute no documentation on what all JSR LG phones implement, so it is getting kind of frustrating for us to figure it all out. Hence i posted the thread to see if we get any LG phone guys who can help us testing the mobile app.

Thanks again for your time.

Ashish

Hi Ashok,

Do you have a LG 6100 & you tried installing Minkle by modifying R-world jar to accommodate to allow Minkle ? Thanks for telling bitpim, i did not know of any such software.

What error Minkle installation gave on the phone, we have used messaging/sms jsr etc in the application. The java on 6100 might not support them (similar case as that of HTC mobile). Can you try installing the Minkle for HTC phone.

Thanks a lot for your effort & time, please let me know the outcome. You can reach me directly at ashish@minkle.in via email/gtalk or 95 3838 4545 on mobile.

Hi Amit,

Do you mean that LG 6100 is not OMH mobile & comes inbuilt with reliance firmware like R-world etc & can not be modified by bitpim ? Had chat with Hitesh & he told me the difference between RUIM & OMH handset.

Thanks for your time again. If you can clarify it would definitely help newbies like us :).

Are you testing Minkle install on LG 6100 or is it some other CDMA phone ?

The error you are mentioning does not seem to occur because of the app, looks like more of the bitpim/internal stuff. Correct me if i am wrong.

it'd be more of the phone not supporting the implementation. so need not be an error in your midlet :)

So is it safe to conclude that 3rd party app can not be installed on LG 6100 using bitpim etc ?
