Reliance Infocomm launches multi-player gaming on RIM handsets· Brings multi-player mobile gaming first time to India

DAKC (Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City), Navi Mumbai March 22, 2004

Reliance Infocomm has announced the launch of India's first multiplayer game suite on R World services available for Reliance IndiaMobile customers. The new range of Multiplayer games will strengthen the existing bouquet of over 50 games offered over R World by Reliance Infocomm. Multiple RIM customers can now play games with each other anywhere across India over Reliance IndiaMobile phones.

"With over 6 million Java enabled handset users, we already have a potential user base for high-end mobile gaming. Our current set of mobile games are already receiving a phenomenal response, with games enjoying millions of downloads in a month," says Mahesh Prasad, President, Applications Solutions Group, Reliance Infocomm Ltd. "The objective now is to elevate mobile games to the next plateau by engaging multiple users playing a game with each other. We see a huge opportunity in mobile multi-player games that could add a whole new dimension to the wireless entertainment & communication."

Reliance Infocomm has initiated a unique programme under the 'Dhirubhai Ambani Developers Programme' that encourages independent software vendors (ISVs) to develop unique applications including games for Reliance IndiaMobile. Thanks to this unique initiative, today RIM users enjoy a vast array of applications including mobile games on its R World suite of data applications. The launch of Multiplayer mobile games is one such major achievement where the multiplayer games, the game engine, and the technology to support these games have been developed by Paradox Studios, one of India's premier game developers. Dhruva Infotech, Game Trix, Nazara Technologies, and Tinfo Mobile are a few other developers who have helped popularize gaming on R World.

"We are proud to be associated with reliance Infocomm in bringing multiplayer mobile gaming to India. The technology to support these multi-player games has been entirely developed in India and several man-months of efforts have gone into the optimization of these games on the wireless networks in a multi-player environment," Says Anurag Khurana, CEO Paradox Studios.

Reliance Infocomm has introduced two-player games including Tic Tac Toe, Tac Tix, and Dots and will soon launch four-player games such as Video Poker and Teen Patti (the Indian version of 'Flush') in the near future. All multiplayer games have a built-in Ladder System (High Score System).

The new multiplayer games can be accessed through "New Releases" under Games section of R World and one can select a particular multiplayer game from the menu. Currently the partner for your multiplayer game is selected by a Quick Match system where different RIM users logging in for multiplayer game will be selected at random for two-player or four-player games.

"We are also working on options where the RIM user can invite a partner for the game by sending an automatically generated message to friends while logging on to the multiplayer games. We will also offer an option where the RIM users can create their own 'Room' where friends can be invited to join in for the multi-player games," added Mr. Khurana.

Due to the always on, anytime, anywhere packet data transfer capability of CDMA 1x RTT network of Reliance Infocomm, the interactive applications such as multi-player gaming is possible for the first time in India. A handful of operators in the world have multi-player game capability.

Initially, multi-player games are introduced on colour phones and soon would be made available to all Reliance IndiaMobile handsets that support R World services.

this discrimination based on color/bw handsets is not fair! they should phase out the b/w handsets by giving every subscriber color handsets for a nominal charge.. :help:

It is good to know that Reliance will soon have multiuser gaming.

The option where the RIM user can invite a partner for the game by sending an automatically generated message should be given high preference rather than the system selecting a partner.

What if there are less number of users logged in for Multiple players gaming?

Umhhh...icon3.gif
