2 pointsPortability of Car Registration Numbers-Retain Your Old Car Number Lifelong Maharashtra First State in The Country To Offer Now, you can use old number on new car Somit Sen, TNN, Feb 12, 2011, 05.47am IST MUMBAI: The state transport department has decided to introduce portability of car registration numbers. Starting next week, if you buy a new car, you will be able to retain the number of your old one. But the convenience comes at a cost. "We will charge a one-time premium from car owners for offering the choice," said state transport commissioner Dilip Jadhav. A source in the RTO, Mumbai, said the amount will be Rs 10,000. The old number cannot be retained if the car is transferred to another state. "But within Maharashtra, you can use the number for a lifetime and keep changing car models as per your choice," Jadhav said. "We are the first in the country to provide the facility." Vehicle owners have welcomed the news. "These days, people keep changing cars as new models hit the road every month. Some car owners feel a sentimental attachment for a particular registration number. The transport department's move will please them," said Ram Shah, a resident of the eastern suburbs. The department expects to make a windfall from the scheme. "We will have to wait and watch how many people avail of the scheme. We expect to earn lakhs in revenue across the state," Jadhav said, adding that last year, RTOs across the state earned handsome revenue since many people, mainly businessmen and industrialists, bought vehicles like Ferrari and Range Rover. During the Diwali season, the RTO, Mumbai, made a record collection of over Rs 60 crore, the Andheri division (of three) netting more than 50% of the amount. Special car registration numbers, which includes digits 1 to 9, double and triple digits, can be obtained by paying anywhere between Rs 5,000 to a maximum of three lakh rupees.

1 pointTo communicate with the network, mobile phones emit low levels of radio waves (also known as radiofrequency or 'RF' energy) when being used. SAR stands for Specific Absorption Rate, which is the unit of measurement for the amount of RF energy absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone. The SAR is determined at the highest certified power level in laboratory conditions. A SAR value is a measure of the maximum energy absorbed by a unit of mass of exposed tissue of a person using a mobile phone, over a given time or more simply the power absorbed per unit mass. SAR values are usually expressed in units of watts per kilogram (W/kg) in either 1g or 10g of tissue. You should also be aware that the SAR values shown are maximum values and in practice emissions from mobile phones will normally be lower than these figures. The emissions depend on factors such as distance from a transmission mast, whether the phone is used indoors or outdoors, how close the phone is held to the ear and other operating factors. It is important to realise that a phone with a high SAR rating may actually operate with much lower emissions in practice, and conversely a phone with a lower SAR rating may operate with emissions higher than a high SAR phone in practice. You should not rely on a low SAR rating to guarantee your health. Exposure Limits North American and Australian Standard - The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 1.6 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over one gram of body tissue. European Standard - The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over ten grams of body tissue. To compare relative radiation of different mobile phones, only compare phones using the same standard. Does the SAR for a mobile phone vary when in use? Yes. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level in laboratory conditions, the actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below this value. This is because mobile phones use adaptive power control to reduce the transmitted power to the minimum possible whilst maintaining good call quality. Once a call is established the mobile phone will power down to the minimum level required. Therefore, the closer you are to a base station and the better the reception, the lower the actual SAR level. Does SAR vary between mobile phones? Yes. The maximum SAR level for different mobile phone models can vary and this is primarily due to where the antenna in the phone is located. Where can i find the SAR and safety information for mobile phones? There are many ways to find SAR information for mobile phones. Check the phone handbook or user manual – look under safety or specifications Search the manufacturer’s web site for your phone model and SAR – it is usually listed under safety, or product specifications. If everything fails, Google it How is SAR measured for mobile phones? Specialised laboratory test equipment is used for conducting SAR measurements. The equipment consists of a ‘phantom’ (human or box), precision robot, RF field sensors, and mobile phone holder. The phantom is filled with a liquid that represents the electrical properties of human tissue. Head Measurements - SAR test inside a head phantom: The mobile phone is positioned against the phantom head and switched on to full power. The precision robot moves the RF probe throughout the phantom head measuring the radio signal level in the head phantom. The computer analysing the data converts the radio signal levels into SAR (W/kg). The full test is conducted at all operating frequencies and using different phone positions. The maximum level measured is recorded as the SAR value against the head. Body Measurements - SAR test inside a body (box) phantom: The mobile phone is positioned against the phantom body and switched on to full power. The precision robot moves the RF probe throughout the phantom body measuring the radio signal level in the body near the phone. The computer analysing the data converts the radio signal levels into SAR (W/kg). The maximum level measured is recorded as the SAR value against the body. Check out the SAR measurement video here ! Is there a separation distance from the body required for mobile phones? Mobile phones generally get better reception when used away from the main part of the body. Some mobile phones are designed to have a small minimum separation from the body when in use, typically 15 – 25mm depending on the phone. The minimum separation often represents the spacing created by a phone holder or clothing. This is to ensure the phone operates more efficiently and also meets the SAR requirements. A mobile phone can always be used up against the head without separation. This is because the antenna in the phone is designed to be far enough away from the head to meet SAR requirements and operate most efficiently. Am I at risk by not using a separation distance? Separation distances are used for more efficient operation of the phone and for SAR compliance. If a separation distance is specified and not adopted then the phone is possibly being used in a non-compliant position. However this does not compromise safety as the international exposure guidelines have large built-in safety margins. How to reduce your exposure to phone radiation Use a hands-free headset. Do not use your phone more than necessary and keep your calls short Send a text instead of making a call Try to avoid using your phone if the signal strength is low - find a better location to make a call Try to use the phone outdoors rather than inside, or move close to a window to make a call Keep the phone (and particularly the aerial) as far as possible from your head Avoid touching the aerial while the phone is turned on, and keep the phone away from areas of the body such as eyes, testicles, breasts and internal organs Women - Limit usage as much as possible if pregnant Switch off your phone when not in use MMF (Mobile Manufacturer Forum) has recently released a video on the issue, you can view it here Samsung users check your SAR value here Nokia users can check their phone's SAR value here Motorola here Sourced part of the info from EMF Explained. 1 pointhttp://www.asianage.com/india/reliance-gets-sc-rap-over-amar-phone-tap-007 New Delhi, Feb. 11: The Amar Singh phone tapping case took a new turn on Friday, with the Supreme Court taking serious view of the Reliance Communications putting his phone on surveillance on a forged letter of the Delhi home secretary, and asked the Centre why the licence of the service provider was not cancelled for such a casual approach. Pointing out at least eight grammatical and spelling mistakes in the letter bearing the date of November 9, 2005, and forged signature of the then Delhi government home secretary, Mr Ramesh Narayanswamy, a bench of Justices G.S. Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly, told the Solicitor General, Mr Gopal Subramaniam, that no service provider could be allowed to get away with such a lapse as it would put the freedom of an individual in “jeopardy”. “Any service provider will not act on this kind of communication, it is gross negligence. It either has been done deliberately or they are incompetent enough to act on an order full of mistakes. Why did you not cancel its (Reliance) licence? You should have cancelled the licence per se on such an order full of mistakes coming from the home secretary, who is a high ranking IAS officer,” the court told the Solicitor General. The apex court pointed out that when several people in the country were raising serious questions on phone tapping, no service provider could be allowed to function in such a casual manner. “Tomorrow if the telephone of Chief of Army staff is given to some terrorist organisations and his conversation is transferred to some other country what will happen to this country? This way any body’s communication can be intercepted by a unscrupulous service provider,” the bench observed. While SG acknowledged that it was a “serious lapse” on the part of Reliance, the service provider’s lawyer will respond on February 14 to the apex court’s query. ------------------------------------------------------- My hard earned money... 1 pointAny day Android for me.... May buy iPhone for my wife (SURELY NOT FOR ME) if CDMA imported iPhone was selling at Rs5000/- and anything more than that is worthless for a smartphone without basic things like fileManager, removable memory card/battery, imho... And I wont go for the GSM iPhone4 even if it is given for FREE, as it magically transforms to an iPodTouch if you HOLD IT WRONGLY (as mentioned by the evil god jobs)...

1 pointThis time no Comedy Script...Lagta hai aap muje pitvake hi chhodenge.. Imagine Govt of India After me... Lol But sharing some thoughts... I was able to generate Port Out Code successfully from RCDMA but not porting out now because whatever few reason i had to move out is no longer there right now... -Absence of Good Handset....Got Samsung Fascinate -EVDO on Imported Handset...Got that too... Other nuisance like RCDMA Customer Care, Dumbo Web World Guys actually don't affect much, -As i am on Postpaid, don't have issues like recharge problems, VAS etc. The service generally works well. -I haven't had serious issues about Reliance Network Coverage on a regular basis.. And voice quality still is the Best..Thing Which You Use The Most.. Regarding MNP Implementation, even after the instances reported at RIMweb, here is my take.. -Few Genuine problem cases being reported here highlights the chaos...But too small a number statistically to conclude MNP system Failure... -Successful people don't report...Only People with problem do..Again gives a wrong picture statistically.. -Some initial glitch cases have reported problem solved after some time... -Many cases of human errors like incorrect UPC Port feeding...Can't blame the MNP System for that...Actually when such things get rejected...It shows that System is working well.. -Sometimes sheer igonrance on part of people for few things as can be seen here... -Port in-Port Out both networks operating together may not be a MNP Systemic issue...May be merely the way different operators Sync & implement MNP Porting Control Database with MNP service provider at different times & periodicity of update -Going by India's subscriber number, number of operators, Ours can be termed as a fairly successful MNP Implementation anywhere in the world...Just read about UK's MNP Experience..For a country the size of one of our states, it was truly horrible...From the Customer's viewpoint...Still it is after many years & the regulator there is scratching their heads on improving it.. The problem with us Indians is that it always takes a foreigner for us to believe that...Ravindranath Tagore was a great poet..And problem se bhi sahi...Chaotically Also...But India Still Works...And Works Reasonably Well.. Not writing a Comedy as i truly believe that we all have a very strong weapon called MNP in our hands after a long time of sufferring...Let's not get dejected..Let's make a success of it taking the turbulations in our stride...

1 pointReliance cdma has excellent net work but absolutely pathatic customer front. They are least bothred about retaining customer. Data tariff is one example. IMO, cdma management guys are living with syndrome thate people with locked handsets will not leave them and I think its myth. Today only I happend to got to. WW and saw indifferent behavour to activate registered MEID, they had no concern for customer nad no concern to provide alternate solution. When I asked the about data to be used with HERO they says we have only data trhu RWORLD on handset and if you want to use on computer go for modem. Also they were not interested in even new sign up for handset not bought from them. Nodal phone no one replies, manager not present in WW, CC executives do not know how to handle customers and how to provide solutions to them. I am sure out of probably 1000 active members of rimweb are with reliance just because of superb support provided here. HP and sadik can provide MEID registration but those jokers are not even ready to accept the fact that registered MEID means handset in their data base. Shame on RCDMA.
