  1. India Against Corruption - Parivartan

Dude, I was commenting with the big picture in mind, and you are commenting on specifics. When I say the electorate gets what it deserves, it does not automatically follow that politicians are absolved of all evil. How/why do politicians even like Digvijay Sing get to be in government? And thats giving just a worst case example. I agree with what Kshah said somewhere above - whatever stance someone may have about Ramdev, the Govt's action is worthy only of condemnation, and it should be made accountable for its actions.
  2. India Against Corruption - Parivartan

Bingo! I don't know why everyone blames only politicians. In the end we get what exactly we deserve. We elect those who are not fit to rule by any yardstick, and then we pretend to cry foul. And the entertainment continues.
  3. NEW DELHI: In its latest report on the state of the internet, Freedom House puts India 14th on a list that ranks 37 countries on the basis of free and unrestricted access to the web. The list was topped by Estonia. According to the report, the internet is only "partly free" in India. It says that even though there is no substantial political censorship, bloggers and online users have been arrested in the last two years. Among Asian countries, India is on the second position. The country scores 36 points on a scale of 100 compared to South Korea's 32. Less number denotes better access to the web. In 2009, India had scored 34 points. Freedom House is an organization based in the US, monitoring democratic changes, human rights and freedom of speech. "The Indian blogosphere is quite active and eloquent, complementing the rise in internet use by different interest groups and civil society actors. Bloggers are rarely forced by the government or private individuals to take down their writings, but there have been a few instances in which this has occurred," the report says. The report specifically cites the example of Lakshmana Kailash K. "He was jailed for 50 days for allegedly defaming an Indian historical figure online," the report says. "It later emerged that another person had posted the material, and Kailash was arrested based on the (basis of a) wrong IP address." "In the past, instances of the central government seeking to control communication technologies were relatively rare. However, following the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai and with an expanding Maoist insurgency, the need, desire, and ability of the Indian government to control the communications sector have grown," states the report. "Pressure has also increased on private intermediaries to remove certain information. Though most requests have targeted comments that might incite communal violence, some observers have raised concerns of certain removals being unnecessary." On the overall state of the internet, the report says that even in democratic countries like Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and the UK, internet freedom is increasingly undermined by legal harassment, opaque censorship procedures, or expanding surveillance. "The new internet restrictions around the globe are partly a response to the explosion in the popularity of advanced applications like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, through which ordinary users can easily post their own content, share information, and connect with large audiences," says the report. "While mostly serving as a form of entertainment, over the last two years these tools have also played a significant role in political and social activism." The report talks about wide gulf between urban and rural areas when it comes to internet penetration in India. "There is a pronounced urban-rural divide, with an approximate rural user base of just 6.46 million, and only 4.18 million active users. It indicates there are approximately 10 times more urban internet users than rural internet users in India," says the report. Source: TOI
  4. Myfriend These are all false figures Myall friend circle do not have a Reliance number It all started when Anil took over and quality gone by same day They started ChineseClassic sets started cheating and looting. I predicted in same forum about 3 years ago about their future collapse and it happened very fast . My new forecast is Mukesh is soon going to take it over Yes, I had mentioned it myself. But frankly, I did not think it would come to this. Even Airhell cheats and all... in fact on a much grander scale. Network is also bad in some circles/areas. And they not just surviving but thriving. You can get away with a lot here. After all, we Indians are supposed to be tolerant. But of course what Airhell does not have to deal with is CDMA and handset issues and all. What is going on at RCom is just.... hmm... strange!
  5. Good choice, I guess. Main drawback may be the battery though. The Samsungs in that range don't impress at all. The XCD35's screen impresses you right off and definitely seems to be the better option, esp. given its price, support for custom ROMs, etc. Do post your review soon.
  6. Discounts & Deals For Non Electronics/Gadget Stuff

The deal got over before you posted here. Even I wanted to buy more coupons, but could not.
  7. TATA Docomo New GPRS Plans

Is it?? More than 2 friends told me Docomo network sux in Bombay. Have they improved it? Or are you talking only about your area?
  8. Both those Samsungs don't impress when compared to the Optimus One. Got to see working pieces in a shop recently. Their cameras may be the only saving grace compared to the O1 (not that I'v personally compared). However, the dust under screen problem kills the deal for Optimus One.
  9. That seems apparent... but whats even more baffling is the new customer addition figures they are posting. I cannot believe they are getting so many customers. Very, very few people I know have reliance phones; esp. GSM.
  10. My Health Tips

I take caesin (not regularly). More sustained release. Seems to work for me. Besides that, soya and soya milk.
  11. Discounts & Deals For Non Electronics/Gadget Stuff

Thanks guys. Do post your experiences. Stuff from the bigger brands does not work out to be as cheap as it sounds... but still not bad. And I'm a bit apprehensive about going for the smaller brands, esp. when you cannot see the quality in your hands. Plus stocks/sizes of many items seem to have run out. So be careful.
  12. Discounts & Deals For Non Electronics/Gadget Stuff

Surprising, nobody has posted this deal? bestylish.com Rs 99 for a Rs 1000 voucher to buy Stylish & Comfortable Shoes!! Indulge in Branded Luxury for your feet @ Best Prices Online!! On www.dealsandyou.com Vouchers may show sold out for some cities, so check other cities. May become active for that city again... but possibly the deal will terminate soon, so that may not happen again.
  13. So this is ADA's achievement over the years. It can't be that those very well paid + "educated" management dudes have not figured these problems themselves. If they can't then they should at least go thru Rimweb. Something is quite wrong with RCom. And its been apparent for quite sometime now.
  14. Beetel Mobiles - Good Choice

Blockheads? No... most likely underhand dealings to get the contracts. Who else will buy such rubbish? The stuff they seem to be supplying BSNL seems to be even worse than what they put out in the open market.
  15. Unless you get better advice, consider Symphony. Been told that they are the best by repair guys. Do take a 2nd opinion though. We have a Bajaj, but not happy about the quality and its damn noisy. So won't recommend it, but can't say personally about how other bands compare... Gotcha! Go-flexes seem to be the best deal. Thanks a gazillion again.
  16. Dude, the 1 TB option http://www.letsbuy.com/seagate-freeagent-goflex-3.5-usb-desk-kit-1tb-stac1000300-p-16614 you have mentioned seems to be priced higher at 3,290. You have mentioned 2,769? The other options you have mentioned are also priced higher on Letsbuy. Have you given prices after applying some voucher? What about this one - http://www.letsbuy.com/seagate-external-3.5-expansion-desktop-1tb-hard-drive-p-16411 Seems to be the lowest priced one there at Rs. 3,160/-. But seems its not the Go-flex series, so it won't be "upgradable"... right? Whats this upgradability about actually?
  17. What are the current best options for external HDD of 500 GB and/or 1 TB (.5 or 1 TB depending on cost effectiveness and features). Me and a friend need to buy one each. Have a voucher for Letsbuy (hopefully it will work), so buying from there preferred. But the cheaper options seem to have USB 2. Rajan, counting on your esteemed advice again.
  18. In my hurried perusal of the options, it seems I made some mistakes - the NC headphones I referred to seem to only have a NC microphone and not speaker. While it would be nice to have NC mic too, my priority was NC speakers, so that I could listen with less ambient noise. Also got some terminology like NC and isolation mixed up. Got some time to check out the options properly last night, and the Philips headphone suggested by you does seem to be the best option, at least amongst those available on Letsbuy. So will place an order for that soon. Once again, thanks a ton.
  19. But decent NC headphones are available in that price range. You can see some of them even on Letsbuy. Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I don't mid upping the budget, provided it meets the purpose. And if the intended usage is a misconception, why is it mentioned on the pack? Most of the headphones with mic seem to be optimised for voice chat and gaming and not music. Some (very few) mention that it is all purpose. Will have to decide on one soon. Anybody got any advice for 3.5 handsfree (with mic) for mobiles? To add to the confusion, even if it has a 3.5 mm plug, not all work with all mobiles. LIke O1 headset does not work with Nokia and probably the Nokia handsfree will not work on O1 and probably many/most/all other phones... damn!
  20. Hey thanks dude... it looks good, but 2 deficiencies for my requirement - it does not have active NC function. and again it seems to be optimized for voice chat and gaming and not for music. Actually, have never used/owned a headphone with active NC, so wanna try it out as often there is lot of ambient noise around me. Anyway, have to choose whatever fast... some headphones, including the Creative mentioned above is now showing as SOLD OUT. Actually considering NC handsfree for mobile also. I find those on the O1 below par. But most of the headphones on Letsbuy don't seem to have a mic! Any suggestions?
  21. RADIATION IS EVERYWHERE - a very, very dangerous statement. So are poisons, so are carcinogens and a lot of other things. But that does not mean you can get away by saying that and ingesting a poison beyond a limit. And we hardly even know what those limits are... Disrespect it at your own peril.
  22. Well, the price is supposed to be more than 500. Dunno about this one but headphones in this range can and do have good sound quality. Anyway, price is not the only consideration. It should meet requirements. Thanks for the input anyway...
  23. Dude, did you receive it yet? Please do comment, as I need to buy one too. How is it for music (asking because it seems to be targetted only for voice chat and gaming)? And is the noise cancelling feature any good?
  24. When the choice is between security and liberty, the scale must always tip in favor of liberty, to the extent possible, for security without liberty is meaningless. Not only must this not become law, those who propose such laws should be branded as enemies of liberty and be delt with...
