  1. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2010/11/26/stories/2010112650230700.htm After reporting losses at the end of last fiscal, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has now gone cash negative further plunging the telecom company into deep financial mess. BSNL has decided to borrow Rs 3,000 crore to meet routine expenses including salary payments for the current financial year and another Rs 11,000 crore for the fiscal 2011-12. This comes even as the PSU has asked the Government for a bailout package including full refund of the money paid for 3G and broadband spectrum and financial support for rolling out broadband services in rural areas. BSNL has been struggling over the past two years owing to delays in buying network equipment, political interference and a messed up roll out of 3G and broadband services despite getting spectrum one year ahead of the other players. Sliding market share In 2005-06, the public sector undertaking reported revenues of Rs 36,138 crore from operations, which has reduced to Rs 30,268 crore in 2008-09. Profit from operations has slumped — from Rs 4,230 crore in 2005 to a loss of Rs 1,823 crore for 2009-10. It is also losing market share in the highly competitive market, which has as many as 12 operators. All this has happened when the telecom sector is growing the fastest in the world. While BSNL's market share has decreased, private operators such as Airtel and Vodafone have tripled their subscriber base. Since 2005, the public sector unit has been able to buy mobile telephony gear for supporting just about 20 million subscribers due to controversies surrounding the tendering process. Private players, on the other hand, have signed multiple deals during the same period which has enabled them to triple their subscriber base in the last five years. Union blames management BSNL's employees union has blamed top officers leading the PSU for the mess and has repeatedly requested the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, for intervention. “This company cannot survive under such servile management, which, we are sure, cannot rise above the interests of the lords. Thus, the issue fundamentally boils down to induction of the rarest of rare talent on the board, definitely not through the orthodox and primitive mechanism that Public Enterprise Selection Board has in place at the moment. The criterion cannot be just Indian Telecom Services seniority, based on redundant performance mechanism which cannot be the parameters to decide top slots to run a gigantic company virtually in shambles today,” the Sanchar Nigam Executive Association had said a letter to the Prime Minister in February.
  2. Non RUIM/SIM Handsets

    nice info.+1 to you kesav
  3. Best CDMA Mobile Operator In India?

i have used all the 3,but dipan has summarised nicely the reasons. at present coverage wise in ap/tn MTS is next to rcom customer care service better than rcom.but resolution from mumbai ,have been prompt . tariff wise both are at par. used tata 2-3 before ,and even in chennai they used to have poor network
  4. any catch about the validity of the 50 rs additional talktime. like 1/7 /15/30 day validity
  5. Internet Only 'partly Free' In India: Report

@dipan having observed law making from the closest and seeing the way laws are practiced/adminstered from the closest , did i infer so.most of the time efforts of those who are honest are ruined. much before satyam's raju confessed to fraud , an IRS officer found that things are fishy, only to be transferred. what was senoir bhushan's pioint about 50 percent of sc chief justices? what happened to all vigil blowers?how many of us remember their names atleast. @nath forget about relgions .even gender equality doesnot exist. only appeasement to any one who matter . does this appeasment benefit any needy.
  6. Internet Only 'partly Free' In India: Report

raccon we can safely call india kleptocracy and these are the consequences
  7. Non RUIM/SIM Handsets

ujjwal since ours is a predomonantly prepaid market, firms do change tariffs as and when it suits them.moreover our firms have a habit of offering discounts to new customers rather than existing ones.ruim and locked handsets are unpopular for this reason i believe.
  8. Ecommerce Websites - Good, Bad and Ugly!

thanks kartik. i have sent complaints@core.nic.in at min of consumer affairs .can anybody share any other email address for consumer grievances .
  9. Ecommerce Websites - Good, Bad and Ugly!

you are correct rajan.naaptol as search engine for price comparision is good just as shopmania.in .it is indeed strange to say that for a miniscule amount of turnover ,they want to tar their image . just as an example tradus has mailed me on their own in view of a 2 day delay that i will be refunded in case the item is not delivered in 3 days. unlike physical transaction, in online transactions such things play an important role.as soon as the money is paid electronically ,the customer becomes anxious to receive.thats the reason why many ppl refrain from online transactions in first place.
  10. @sougata i am aware about it(mts and tata network sharing) .somehow indicom's action doesnt instill confidence.they have been treating indicom as stepson ever since dodcomo was born!
  11. as long as MTS/Reliance are present , the future of CDMA is bright.
  12. Summer Trainees At TRAI

kesav can anyone who is not at the pleasure of Telecom Minister become TRAI chief.see this http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/sunil-jain-can-manmohan-ditch-raja/374249/. a simple solution could have been to exclude Telecom Minister from the Appointment Committee of Cabinet
  13. Who Is The Corrupt One? Amar Singh Or The Bhushans?

amarsingh fears getting caught if lokpal bill becomes law.bhushans have nothing to fear and thus are drafting
  14. Summer Trainees At TRAI

DOT's biggest irregularity is it decides who should head TRAI. if criticism is the yardstick IRDA leaves TRAI way behind.the insures find it more hard now to trick customers bcos of IRDA. see this http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/newsmaker-j-hari-narayan/392020/

  21. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/todays-paper/article1585825.ece Experts point out that there is no law in India that regulates analyst opinion and therein lies the loophole. The analysts' communication is crafted so well that there are enough gaps to exploit and also to save their skin in case it backfires. “In the US, no analyst can change his opinion within six months and if such a change is warranted due to events such as a drastic policy change, he has to file the reasons to the SEC (US stocks regulator),” said Mr Kishor Ostwal, CMD, CNI Research. As a result, there is no safety net for the retail investor. There continue to remain question marks on what is said and what is actually done, said market experts.
