    How about electric drives? Technology has matured with Li ion batteries and we have powerful motors now. Cars with solar roof tops to drive the electrical subsystem during day is catching trend. I hope we solve our electricity deficit with the help of nuclear reactors and solar power plants. Here is good video at TED:

  4. AFAIK, any gift valued less than Rs 10000 can be duty free. If it is a gift, there should be no invoice. It is left to customs to decide whether it really cost less than Rs 10000. Items sent as gift, get a deduction of Rs 10000 from CIF (Cost+Insurance+Freight) and tax is calculated on remaining amount. Why dont GOI makes any pruchase for personal use less than Rs 10000 duty free?

Nissan claims the top speed of car is 90 mph and it has a maximum range of 100 miles with fully charged batteries. It is excellent for city rides. It is currently subsidized by US Federal Govt (7500$). Nissan is giving a charger (or inverter) which can be easily plugged into any 110v or 240v plug. The charging time varies accordingly. Nissan is also coming up with fast charging stations across cities in US. These charging stations can charge the battery to 80% level in just 25 minutes. It is truly zero emission car. However, its biggest limitation is range. There are alternative electric car available in market like Chevy Volt, which have either a electricity generator running on petrol or diesel. These hybrid cars have extended range. It is debatable if it is a real alternative to tackle energy crisis. But, it seems the electric drives is flavor of season for all the manufactures. GM has already launched Chevy Volt. Volkswagen, Ford and other manufactures are catching with their upcoming models in 2012. This concept is going to stay around for now. We hope to see one of these cars in India by 2013. BTW, Govt. of India has declared a subsidy of upto Rs 1 lakhs for four wheeler electric driven vehicles.

Also custom duty will be on value assessed by custom dept. If they value at 20000 then custom will be Rs 3000. Still it would be a good deal. Yesterday Amazon (Onsale), B&N, Macmall, PCMall, eCost and costcentral all were up for selling. I was about to order 4 but on each site it was turning out to be 115$-120$. Most of the sites were charging high sales tax. Costcentral was a good deal at 102.5$/peice. I paid 410$ for four using google checkout. But, they refunded immediately and cancelled, as my credit card was non-US. Let HP restock. It will be a good deal to buy from their website (no shipping and use promo codes)..
  18. This is mad rush... The slickdeals page is adding 2-3 pages everytime i check. They have already added more than 10000 posts in less than 12 hours. WEBOS is still alive for next few months. HP wouldnt have achieved these numbers without this price... Waiting for cheap deals on ebay..

Computer peripherals are charged at 14.78% duty.
