Dear friends,

I have decided to use State-run Telecom services only.I have dumped Reliance and soon I would dump Idea as well.I am using MTNL pre paid and post paid services as of now.

Its my humble request to those who think MTNL/BSNL 'NOW'are good operators to DUMP the private telcos and heave a sigh of relief from inflated billings, ridiculous schemes every now and then, mulitiplicity of plans to confuse you and stuff like that and above all impolite, discourteous customer care idiots.

This way you also help the Govt of India to earn revenues that are much needed for the social sector expenditures.

I salute you sir. But given the quality of service offered by MTNL, i am not that patriot yet.

MTNL may be good with attractive plans but big brother BSNL is still enjoying their sleep and has nothing good to offer yet. They are still tying themselves in knots because they do not have enough network capacity. The private telcos have greased the babus amply well and they will never come out with attractive plans. Even Southern Railways has now switched over to Airtel and junked BSNL despite 15 secs billing.

Very funny... most of the negatives you have attributed to the private telcos are more applicable to BSNL! The pvt telcos have much better plans! And though their call centres are pathetic... BSNL is the same... if not worse! And Im not gonna even start talking about the network. Most important - just pay a visit to a BSNL exchange to get something done... and I guarante a rapid change in your philosophy... :D

And btw, patronising a sub-standard services is NOT patriotic!

Himanshu, I presume is from Delhi and maybe MTNL is better there. So since younger brother (MTNL) is doing very good now, he has assumed that elder brother (BSNL) may also be doing fine now. The reality is starkly different, I fully agree with you. It may be good in bits and pieces but I will not be patriotic enough to try venturing into any Chennai BSNL exchange for getting things done.

OT,

However for BB, I will definitely vouch for BSNL's services. This is again very, very area specific.

Quite so! Its the same here. DataOne is pretty good! In fact thats the main reason why we have still kept the BSNL landline. Though DataOne works so well.. and there have been VERY few downtimes... if you do run into any problem, support from BSNL is horrrible...

Exactly it is BB that is bringing back people to BSNL land lines.

And to some extent as their ad says - "ghar ki pehechan" factor - especially if u try remain in contact with all relatives across the country - like our landline no - its almost 15 years old - cant afford to loose it now. (just running Sulabh + BB now)

And their cust service - huh still seems to be in the socialist era. Remember had to pay and hd a hell lotta problm when we changed residence in '99.

Guys, I had expected worse criticism than what I witness here.

But most of you seem to have missed the point.

I requested only those who thought MTNL/BSNL are providing better services to change over. Did I ask people who dont think so to change over? Why should I ask people who have billing/network/CC problems to change over?

I wouldnt subscribe to a sud standard service even if it is from a public sector company.

Friends I requested people like me who have used other operators and have found MTNL/BSNL to be as satisfactory if not more to change over.In Delhi I have used every other operator and I must admit I am very happy with MTNL.

One of the wiser friend here complains that BSNL exchange is unfriendly, network is poor, call cente is pathetic.

1st-Dude I must say that it might be a local problem in your own state and most importantly in your own local area.Based upon your experience you should not make generalisations.

2nd-I guess you havent had the opportunity to visit a reliance web world. If you went there any day of the year just see around. You would realise something which you should then share with us here.

3rd- I have used all operators and I know why my philosophy changed.

Private telcos are out to make profits at any cost that includes restricting competition, using unfair trade practices and cheatig unsuspecting customers. The money we pay to them goes as profits to an individual or a group of individuals who dont care what is happening in our country. They might do some charity and take up some social sector project but thats just a cosmetic thing to do.

On the other hand the revenues earned by public sector companies go to the government coffers which are used for such things as NREGA,Farmers' loan waiver, IAW...the list goes on.We can become contributors to such schemes by just using mtnl/bsnl.Thats what I thought of doing. That has changed my philosophy.

I am not requesting such people who feel BSNL/MTNL are poor service providers. My post doesnt concern them at all.

Hmm... I had many many opportunities to visit BSNL exchange/csc; and each time they make your life miserable. If you want to activate a service, you have to visit a minimum of three times... if you find a billing error, you will keep on visiting them forever... ie. if at all they admit that there is mistake. They just don't admit that there is a mistake from their end; they feel the customer are trying to fool them!! :rofl_200:

and with RCOM, I am a lot more happier. Billing error-just 1 in 4 years!! and corrected in the next bill with jus a single visit to their cc! :SI:

I agree to sachin to quite some extent. BSNL is really good service provider. In GSM they have quality problem but if one looks in to the reason, it is private operators which stalls all expansion and improement plans. Most of the tenders of BSNL and MTNL are challanged in courts and stalled. Most of them are suppliers to private operators. It is surprising to note that about 75% of cases are rejected by courts, but expansion / upgradation is delayed beyond tolerable limits.

Most private telcos are affraid of BSNL and MTNL as they have deepest penetration, widest network.

MTNL seems to have gained much on the customer care front.

it has opened quite a number of CC centers for quick disposal of grievances.

My experience with BSNL BB help levels at the higher exchange has been excellent so far. I have had many problems with the speeds and over the phone itself, the Div.Engnr sorts it out. Of course it helps that I am able to tweak my system as per their advise. It is indeed excellent that a public sector organisation has such DEs who sort out problems over the phone itself.

In contrast, I had Hathway earlier and I do not think I should even attempt any comment on their services. It was pathetic and hopeless. Elsewhere on this forum, a lot has been written about Hathway. Now I understand that they may have improved. I will still not touch them, I'd rather be without any BB service than fall into their trap once again.

And about BSNL's GSM service in Chennai, I do not think it is as good as other pvt telcos. And yes, I agree with Himanshu's point about walkins into any WW. It is horrible.

If I talk about customer services, in about 17-18 years of BSNL customer, I have not visited BSNL exchange or office even once. Where as reliance I have visited 5 times in 3 years. Hutch, Idea about once in 3-4 months of usage.

The wiser friend speketh: :Riendo: I dont think its a local problem. Im sure many members here will testify that BSNL has its own philosophy of operating, etc. Anyway, I cant speak about other areas, as I dont have any direct experience... so no more comments there...

And its absolutely true that they look upon you as a thief if you bring billing errors to their notice!

As for public sector companies being the messiahs of the nation, I dont think any of their employees give 2 figs... In fact their desire to work only for bribes is legend! And I dont think there is anything wrong in a group of people making a decent profit... as long as it is "legitemately" done.

And btw, I have been to WebWorlds several times for several reasons when I was using RIM. I am no fan of RCom, but I dont recall needing to go twice to a Webworld for the same issue. With BSNL, less said the better. In fact their working hours themselves make it extremely difficult to visit. On the other hand WebWorlds are at least open till 8 pm. I dont know whats the state of the Webwords now... it has very likely deteriorated... as my experiences were in the Mukesh era...

That said, Im not just trying to glorify the pvt. sector. I'd say both are important and generate the necessary competition in the market. I guess we all just vent after our experiences. After my experience with Hathway, I too would not have had any qualms of screaming from the rooftops that BSNL is God's gift to us...

 :Contento:
