nitink 279 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 CHENNAI: The recent DoT directive asking telecom operators to bar calls from mobile handsets with fake International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers may have rendered your Chinese or Korean mobile phone useless. But, an option is now available to you with just Rs 199 as one time fee. A new programme ‘genuine IMEI implant programme (GII)’ has been set up that will allow owners of mobile phones with fake IMEI number to get one from a genuine service providers (GSP) by paying Rs 199. Mobile Standard Association India (MSAI), a body which has the authority to issue these identity numbers for mobile handsets will identify these service providers. DoT, the COAI in collaboration with the MSAI and the various GSM service providers have set up the project to also protect the interests of customers who have already bought such phones. konquerror 21 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 This thing has been going on for long time...I heard this in Bangalore last April only. At that time news came in newspaper that all calls from sets with invalid or fake IMEI numbers, would be barred. But nothing happened
