Please suggest entry level Android handset for GSM or CDMA (MTS)

Recommended Posts

My friend from chennai wants suggestions for his first android.

Budget R 6k

Between Idea Id280, Vodafone smart or MTS mTag (cdma)

Comparison on instrument and data tariff should help him to decide

Please suggest.

Your friend can opt for Samsung Galaxy Y available at around 6.4k

Vodafone smart and Idea Id280 both are better then MTS Mtag because Mts Mtag doesn't have Motion Sensor.

If your friend choose Samsung Galaxy Y, then go only for latest stocks available with Android v.2.3.6 because 2.3.5 has bugs of ringer going silent when in lock mode etc.

For MTS - Samsung Galaxy Pop - unlocked, works with all OMH RUIM @8.5K

or MTS MTag

@honest latest buy from letsbuy - Galaxy Y has 2.3.6 Android version. :)

I would be a bit careful of Huawei. Their products are excellent, but who know Bharat Sarkar may see a fly and ban them!

Very correct Chirag Bhai, even Samsung's resale value is better then other brands.

But this Spice Mi-280 is an all-in-one handset. Buyer gets value for money. Dual Sim is another added advantage. But 1000 mAh battery could be a problem with dual sim handset and that too android. A minimum of 1500 mAh battery would suffice. This could be a good choice for those who want to try Android.

My neighbor purchased this handset today, silver colour. Body of Mi-280 is better then Mi-270. :)

One problem with spice is that I couldn't find many service centers here in south..

Micromax and Spice do not make the phones. They rebrand handsets from other manufacturers. So they are as good/bad as the original OEM.I got a Spice Mi300 about 18 months back. Later came to know it is a rebranded Foxconn handset which is also offered at different parts of the world by Orange, Apanda, Comtiva, Chery among others and has a very active online community. Spice never upgraded after Anroid 2.1 and did not release flashplayer for this set. But thanks to the online community, I am running Android 2.3 with flashplayer without any trouble.

Sorry, I can't fully agree with this part... For example, they can ask Huwaei or other better OEM to put cheap display and cut some more cost while re-branding... Even you can find this in reviews (esp quality of camera and displays not comparable to the OEM's original product)...

So if budget is very very tight, then only go for Spice/Micromax...
