Blackberry Ban In UAE, Saudi Arabia

Recommended Posts

Main features on BlackBerry smartphones will be blocked in the United Arab Emirates, officials announced Sunday, and Saudi Arabia plans to follow suit. Why? Security issues, for one, and because the government has trouble monitoring their use. BlackBerry data, which is encrypted and routed overseas, makes officials fear that terrorists or other criminals could exploit the technology. “The UAE doesn't want to take any chances and they want to monitor what is going on in the country,” said Simon Simonian, a Dubai-based analyst who follows telecommunications. Thousands of users will be prevented from accessing email and the Web on the devices.

Good , if blackberry is transper!ntt and respect local law they should not have any problem in putting up servers locally.

Why doubt Chinese only, why not us and Canada or Europe for security concerns?

We should also ban Glue so that people can not close their envelopes - all mail should be in open envelopes or postcards so that Govt can read and terrorists do not misuse closed envelopes for secret communications.

And, illegible handwriting should be banned - else its difficult for security agencies to make out what you've written. Plus only approved languages allowed for postal purposes. And no sending envelopes to friends by hand etc. - must be only through Dept of Posts.

If there's any terrorism related or illegal message inside it should be declared in ALL CAPS on the envelope to make Govt's job easier.

This will completely eradicate terrorism.

LOL

the fact is bb os is so so secured that even UAE security agencies cannot eaves drop on bb serevsr and see whats goin on

its difficult to admit that we cannot crack ur system

^ yes, and the best part is that having access to RIM servers will do no good as it uses PKI so you need customer's private key to eavesdrop which RIM doesn't have - its only stored on your BB.

Its not for voice calls though as the encryption is dropped by the handset if tower says it doesn't support encyrption, its only for emails. Besides GSM voice encryption is easy to crack for those with resources, though CDMA is still extremely difficult.

Anyway terrorists can even use public email like gmail etc and use their own encryption software like GnuPG or personal codes and their trick of saving messages in draft folder to avoid it being intercepted (as it doesn't get transmitted at all - the other person logs in to senders email a/c and reads the draft messages!)

So this is not really about security at all. Its about something else.

128 bit SSL means

2 Power of 127 Combinations of Keys. Where is our Pram Dharam Super Computers it will take 10 Minutes to Try all Combination of Keys and Break it. But the Problem is these Keys is Changed in Run time like SSD-A and SSD-B lol

Google Recovery uses 256 bit Keys - 56 years to Break to try all Keys combination in Simple Core 2 Due PC

Motorola DROID-X NAND uses 512 bit Keys - 800 years to try all keys combination in Simple Core 2 Due PC

Hetal Patels New Trading Engine uses 2048 bits keys and take time from Ramayan to 2010 to try all Combinations in Core 2 Duo PC

This is why ARMY and Government Invest on Super Computers why Big Companies invest in Super Computers to get Proper Keys in time of Minutes

^ True. At least for Western Govts or even China etc, but don't know if Indian Govt really invests in good technology or does the usual corrupt bureaucratic ****.

Here's a joke on these lines though:

http://xkcd.com/538/

security.png

Replace 'Tells us the password' with 'Gives us his BB handset'.

So as you all must be aware that Indian Govt officials also woke up and decided to take action in this concern. I didn't understand what they or UAE officials will do? Will they ban Blackberry handsets or will they bar the Blackberry internet services thus preventing BB users from accessing internet.

Another point in this concern that as of now most of the handset are offering Push mails. Are they safe and secure from Govt's perspective?

This is a fight between people who develop technology and peole who control the society. The outcome can be serious but hope is always alive. Even if BB hets banned, later they might share the code or get around will this mess.
