Bsnl To Offer Broadband Connectivity At 8 Mbps

Three-in-one `Broadband Multiplay'

MADURAI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is all set to introduce some of its next generation Internet services.

The new scheme titled `Broadband Multiplay' will have voice, video and Internet protocol television (IPTV) services in one package. While at present the connectivity speed of BSNL broadband connection is two megabits per second (MBPS), the new technology will enable connectivity at a speed of eight MBPS.

The IPTV service will enable access to content providers who will offer "content on demand." A `set top box,' either on a rental basis or outright purchase, will be provided to consumers to access this facility.

To be launched in 789 cities all over the country shortly, the requisite infrastructure was being put in place, a senior official said here on Monday. The feasibility study of the project had been completed and the equipment was being delivered to the sites for installation.

Madurai would be the base for the services offered in and around the city. It would be provided based on parameters such as density of customers in the vicinity of BSNL telephone exchanges and number of `Bfone' subscribers. In the initial stage, the project would be implemented using copp

It seems that some of the BSNL guys went to japan , where they hrd that in Japan threshhold of a BROADBAND connection is 5 Mbps - anything under that is not termed broadband. thats where they came up with the idea of 8 Mpbs... crazy chaps..!

These are just in papers...first let them launch unlimited broadband @ 2mbps...after that we will think of iptv and stuff.. :NOTriste:

Most probably it might be 8MBPS with an 1GB download limit.

Ya let BSNL first launch 2 mbps with unlimited upload/download ....... BSNL (they r an indian company thinking

like a japanese company) :lol: ... we need unlimited downloads and 2 mbps is more than enough ...

I really doubt whether Indian subscribers need 8 Mbps speed! Even if they offer this speed for small business segment still there will be an upload/download cap for sure. Most of the Indian providers are like that and BSNL is known for its legacy mind-set.

8 mbps is really gd offer...........but BSNL should make it unlimited in low cost.......................

Amazing, i feel BSNL should alsostart services in Mumbai...

Interesting isnt it that the services start when ne is just barely out of mumbai,

it will be a stiff competition for MTNL
