LTE has been all over the news this year - Reliance Industries (RIL) looks set to deploy TD-LTE services in 2011 in India, WiMax v/s LTE, The Indian government have approved Qualcomm’s investment in four fixed broadband services that will use LTE... Let us try to understand what LTE is all about. Long Term Evolution (LTE), is a new radio platform that is the primary technology behind 4G – the evolution of 3G networks. Where 3G made mobile data a reality, 4G will make it a much better one. It has been in development for around 10 years now, and has begun to see some releases worldwide. The very first LTE network was launched by TeliaSonera in Norway and Sweden, Verizon launched their LTE service in 38 markets in late 2010. Elsewhere the network is still at the trial stage. Boiled down to it’s basics, here is what LTE does: Theoretical download peak data rates up to 100 Mbps and upload peak data rates up to 50 Mbps with 20 MHz bandwidth Reduced latency to 10 msec round-trip time between user equipment and base station More capacity than 3G – an LTE network can support more users in a single area Larger cell size. A single LTE cell tower can cover up to 100km. While that size will be greatly diminished in a heavy urban area, it’s still a lot better than 3G Compatability - LTE is designed to be compatible with existing standards Ease of upgrade - Part of the reason it has taken so long to develop LTE is that it is planning forward a lot. The networks are being designed so that implementing upgrades further down the line will be much easier. TD-LTE has been gathering steam over the last few months, and now a lot of operators are experimenting with it. It stands for Time Division LTE, and was developed by China Mobile over the last three years. To keep this as simple as possible, here are the essential differences and similarities between TD-LTE and classic LTE: They run on different bands of the wireless spectrum. But the part of the spectrum that would carry the TD-LTE signal is much cheaper, and has much less traffic. TD-LTE and LTE are so similar that the same chip can access both networks – which is much easier for handset manufacturers. The other standard for 4G, WiMAX, is not particularly compatible with LTE. There’s talk that it WILL be compatible in the future, but it’s not at the moment. TD-LTE, however, can be pretty cheaply and easily upgraded to from WiMAX. A novel radio access technology is implemented by LTE, which bodes well for IP-based traffic largely. Another advantage of this technology is its offering an uncomplicated upgrading track from existing 3G networks. A mobile networks core architecture also may evolve from LTE that would be known as System Architecture Evolution, which can effectuate significant perormance augmentations over 3G. This technology, further can enhance spectral efficiency with double the efficacy of 3G and HSPA standards. The numerous wireless broadband networks of the times can exploit the higher data speeds and capacity evolved here, as good as any other media application. Other significant advantages presented by this technology are - cost reduction per bit, services increment at low costs, Usage flexibility of new, as well as existing frequency bands, open interfaces, simple architecture, and a considerable reduction in terminal power consumption. LTE can co-exist with earlier 3GPP radio technologies, even in adjacent channels, and calls can be handed over to and from all 3GPP’s previous radio access technologies. What is LTE architecture? The evolved architecture comprises E-UTRAN (Evolved UTRAN) on the access side and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) on the core side. The figure below shows the evolved system architecture More technical info here Since it is a evolving technology, experts are requested to give their opinion and the post will be modified accordingly To see the latest LTE deployments and commitments check LTE Maps Sourced info from missphones, gomonews

Kamal bhai, teens experience a wide range of interests during the teen years, making it difficult to navigate the whole gift giving situation. Most of the time these interests are fickle so we have to foresee. Why not take him outside for a short tour and spend some quality family time with him Amusement parks will be a good idea, he will cherish it. Alternatively, Instill photography as a hobby If he like pets! Gifting a 14 year old money, however tempting it may be, is not advisable as it is likely to be squandered frivolously and also it lacks the "personalized" touch. Take some time and think out of the box! Hope this helps! Happy Hunting!

gifting a teenager has to be very thoughful. It has to be the in thing as well as should not feel preachy. A nouvelty item that also has some purpose.. just let it hang in for c couple of days and you will certainly find it.

A bicycle or any gym/sports club membership is possibly the best idea for that age. You can also gift him a guitar or membership to guitar/piano lessons if he likes music. If these are not feasible then give ipod shuffle. Computers etc. will only make him stay indoors and also distract from studies.

80,000 subscribers opt for MNP service in HaryanaMansi Taneja / New Delhi January 15, 2011, 0:52 IST Haryana has seen a significant jump in the number of subscribers requesting mobile number portability (MNP) since the launch of the service in the state on November 24. There have been porting requests of about 140,000, of which 50,000 were rejected. The actual churn was 80,000, according to initial estimates made by the service providers. Haryana has a total subscriber base of 19 million. MNP allows subscribers to change their service providers while retaining their numbers. The facility will be introduced in the rest of the country from January 20. “MNP has become a hit in this initial phase. It is expected to gain momentum. Service providers are offering new schemes to retain clients, but the users are trying the new facility. The actual impact will be known after the all-India launch on January 20,” an executive with one of the operators, which offer services in Haryana said, on condition of anonymity. The view was echoed by other service providers. MNP is expected to increase competition between providers to improve their service. According to an earlier industry estimate, about 25 per cent of mobile users would like to shift to a new service provider.

Very True... Karthik's suggestion for a Pet is Very Good...A child understands many emotions of Selflessness, Compassion, Loyalty, Unconditional Love, Caring and Mercy for a world beyond humans through a Pet in maturing years... What differentiates today's Kid from our generation is that they have no time to Read Good Print Books today because of the so called connected world of Chats, Buzz, Facebook and above all Google search...Most of the social networking activities a child does now a days has One Day Value...No Intellectual Depth OR acquiring Real Knowledge... In that sense, Gifting a Child something which will motivate him to read Good OLD physical print books can work wonders for overall mental development... A Good Poetry book...So he knows the expression of varied emotions... A Good Science book...So he knows answers to unknowns and curiousity is aroused... A Good History book...So real histroy is known...And not from 2-3 line opinionated, ill-informed comments online And Thousand other things...Basically teaching him How to Fish rather than Gifting a Fish Good reading habit is the best thing for Child's overall mental development, open up his mind, explore the possibilities... Don't Know if you are a Gujarati, Still Two Suggestions... 1. Get him "SAFARI" Monthly Science Magazine Subscription...English Version also available...The Best...Reading since last 30 years... 2. R.R. Sheth & Co. Publishers in Mumbai has Two Schemes for Books, #Pay Rs 1,000 One Time and Get Rs 200 worth of books free Every Year Life Long #Pay Rs 5,000 One Time and Get Rs 1,000 worth of books free Every Year Life Long Though they are primarily into Gujarati Publishing, Good selection of English books also available...

I would second Genius's suggestion of swimming pool membership or good bike. Or if that seem unexciting, maybe admission to the best karate/taikwondo/judo course in your town. Kids mostly miss out on the physical things these days, other digital and entertainment things they invariably pick up due to their parents lifestyles and likings. It is also essential to give them some of your time when ever they are doing physical things as that is a big motivation for them when parents are with them & encouraging them. My daughters can cycle for a few hours if i am with her, but will do it for 10 min if she's with friends or alone. But, if you still want something digital maybe a laptop with a copy of visual basic installed and some cool sample vb games programs which you can show and explain to him so that he can pick up some programming & logical thinking skills. Maybe even simple Basic like gwbasic etc to start off. Or if he's interested in electronics then some good circuits book along with components etc for a few exciting projects. Or maybe a RC Helicopter (or plane if your budget is higher and you have some space to let it take off and land) - takes quite a lot of skill to learn to keep chopper/plane stable and steer it where you want. Again you'll have to spend some time on it with him.

You can always add more RAM. Sticking to built in 4GB RAM may limit your choice, variety and budget as 4GB is not still main stream and difficult below 30K...
