Airline lost your luggage? Track it on a map with this cellular device CES startup pitches Trakdot for tracking your suitcase. Source Worried about the airline losing your luggage? Just plunk this device in your bag. Trakdot Dealing with an airline that's lost your luggage and doesn't even know what city it's in is always a frustrating experience. One startup at the Consumer Electronics Show says it has the answer: a $50 cellular device that sits in your luggage and pinpoints its location. The product is called Trakdot and was made by a company called GlobaTrac, which says it's in a pilot production run and will be sold to consumers in March. The device will cost $50 and require a $12 yearly charge to use the service, which lets you track the device on a website and get text message alerts about your luggage's location. If a bag doesn't reach its intended destination, "the airlines don't know where it is," GlobaTrac CTO Joseph Morgan told Ars at the CES Unveiled event Sunday night. "If it ain't where it's supposed to be, they've lost it, they don't know where it is. They will eventually find it, but that doesn't give you peace of mind." Morgan contends that using cellular signals is better than GPS, because with GPS "if you don't have a good view of the sky it can still get lost." To locate itself using cellular signals, the device has to communicate with cell towers, of course. So how does Morgan pull that off? He said he operates a small wireless carrier called Aspenta, and has roaming agreements with the major carriers allowing the Trakdot device to work worldwide. We couldn't find a website for Aspenta, but there is a Federal Communications Commission filing listing Morgan as the owner of Aspenta in Georgia. "We are a cell phone carrier. These devices only communicate with my carrier, and I have roaming agreements with the world," Morgan said. Morgan is a 40-year veteran of the communications industry with experience at NASA, IBM, Delta Airlines, and more, according to the GlobaTrac website. Besides simply locating your luggage on a map, Morgan has a couple other tricks up his sleeve. The device will also use BlueTooth to communicate with an app on your iPhone or Android. That way, you can watch its progress along the conveyor belt as you're waiting for your luggage. If it works, that's a neat trick given how similar most pieces of luggage looks these days, but certainly isn't as useful as locating luggage that's been lost altogether. Using double-A batteries, the device should keep a charge for about three weeks if it's running constantly, Morgan said. It should work in nearly any suitcase, but perhaps not ones made of metal. The device also temporarily shuts itself off during a plane's takeoff and landing, using an accelerometer to sense speed. "Right before the airplane takes off it goes into auto shutdown. It stays off for 20 minutes and then it comes back on in receive mode only," Morgan said. While Morgan said "There are no guidelines about devices that ride in the belly of the aircraft today," he's worried that won't always be the case. "We didn't want to spend millions of dollars creating something that could get outlawed."

In the long run i will suggest Innova will be better. XUV is also good but no idea what happens after 2-3 years. Please do thorough research before buying it.

^^^ I will prefer Maruti over Hyundai. i20 is my 4th Hyundai and I feel it is just hyped. When you compare Maruti with Hyundai, I iwll say its much better. However EON looks slicker and stylish compare to Alto 800.
  16. RIP Amanat / Damini / Nirbhaya

Agree with Nath. There is need for stringent law but not which gives excessive power to anybody. There should be fast track courts and even police should be penalised for no action/improper investigation and other lapses and similarly complainant in case of false charges. In current scenario, nobody has respect for law. People know that cases drag on for years before any verdict is out. Speedy trial is ensure only in cases where media is involved. I will rather suggest having law whereby offenders are penalised based on their economic status & education. Higher the income, higher the punishment and higher compensation(for high net worth offenders, it should be paid by them) with minimum punishment and compensation. Similarly govt officers, politicians, policemen should be considered as high net worth as they are the protector of law and also enjoy lot benefits under IPC. Please don't mentioned about equality. Equality in India exists only in books and while real scenario is totally different. This is my OPINION.

Agree with kshah.. Innova will be the best and then XUV 500 from Mahindra. I am not sure about XUV in the long run.

As requested, I am writing a micro review of i20. I got diesel and already mentioned its Magna version. Till date I could not lay my hands on it. This weekend, I got a chance to drive and that too good 200+ kms. what i liked: good pick up nice AC good interiors and decent stereo player. it has Aux and USB connectors gear change indicator for better millage. but you cant continuously look at it and drive. what i don't liked: no driver seat height adjustment. I found gear stick little longer on high speed, steering wheel seems very responsive and car feels very light. it takes away all the pleasure I also found that whenever car goes over small pothole or some thing else, you feel as if its skidding. this happens even at 60 km/h. in fact i stopped couple of times just to check whether there is any problem with tyres. I am yet to refuel and get the millage as when I started tank was 3/4 and when returned it was little over 1/4. I will say it might be good for city and traffic but will not suggest for highways/expressways.

  23. Help to find missing software for Dell laptop

Go to support.dell.com and then select the criteria ie Home Users, enterprise or other. after that the next page will ask you to enter service tag no. You will find your service tag at the bottom/base of your laptop. Based on your tag, you can find all drivers and software. Generally you also get a CD with the system. Otherwise this is the best option. Besides, many software are just addons and also hog your memory. I just installed required drivers and other software that I need. The software like HDD protector, WI-Fi software etc are too heavy and slows down system. This is what I believe.
