  1. ^^^ No. More OMH CDMA phones depends purely on business models of CDMA operators & willingness of handset manufacturers. Custom duty as it is was very low in the range of 2% + for mobiles.
  2. Vodafone looking down the barrel at possible tax demands of thousands of crores again. Because today's Union Budget has amended Section 9 of the Income Tax Act retrospectively from 1962. This effectively overturns the supreme court judgement in Vodafone case.
  3. The humble pen drive has been around for a long time. Prices have never been cheaper, and larger capacities are easily available too. If you're a computer user, you probably have several of them. Apart from using them to just transport your data, there are a myriad other uses for one, as long as you have a one with a decent capacity and speed. For most of these uses, a 2GB drive (prices start at Rs 250) is more than sufficient, though as is always the case with digital storage, more the merrier! Run PortableApps PortableApps is a Windows launcher that can run entirely from your USB drive. What this means is that you can carry a suite of all your favorite applications like Firefox, Chrome, VLC Media Player , Foxit Reader, 7-Zip and more, all on the drive. Plug it into any remote computer and you'll have all your favorite applications with you. All you have to do is head to the website and download the PortableApps program. There are even pre-selected app bundles available for download. Get it from www.portableapps.com Computer maintenance & troubleshooting A USB drive can play host to various applications that can help fix, maintain or troubleshoot a computer in need. First, you can start with Trend Micro's HouseCall or Kaspersky's virus removal tool. Glary Utilities can be run to do a complete maintenance check (registry clean, removal of temporary files, manage startup programs). Finally, Ultimate Defrag can be used organise the files for better speed and reliability. Get all the apps from www.pendriveapps.com Run an alternate operating system Linux and various versions of it are available for free. But some special versions of Linux like Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux and Xubuntu are small and light enough to be run completely from a USB drive. This means that you can run and check out Linux for yourself on any existing Windows computer, without making any changes to it! The added advantages of these 'Live' builds of Linux is that they have very minimal hardware requirements, which makes them blazing fast, even on older machines. Get them from www.puppylinux.org, www.damnsmalllinux.org, www.xubuntu.org Automated backup of selected folders You may have a 500GB hard drive in your computer, but the most important data to you on that drive will be lesser. It could be a folder of your photographs, videos, songs or important documents. Rather than take a complete backup of the drive which is a time-consuming process, you can use Microsoft's SyncToy to selectively backup and synchronise certain folders between the hard drive and an external USB flash drive. Once configured, all you have to do is plug the drive in to backup the folder. Get it from: http://goo.gl/Zz77V Run a complete media player XBMC (Xbox Media Center) started out as media center for the Microsoft Xbox , but is now versatile software for PCs to playback multiple formats of multimedia files in a slick interface. XBMC Live is a special version, designed to run from USB drives and it can be used to run a pre-configured version of XBMC on any machine for demo purposes. Pretty much anyone who sees the Live version gets the full version instantly. Get it from: http://xbmc.org/download Encrypted Data with self-destruct feature If you're paranoid about someone stealing data from your USB drive, you can secure the data with USB SafeGuard. It encrypts data on the drive with advanced AES 256-bit encryption. You can assign a password to selected folders or to the entire drive. And there's a setting that can erase the entire contents of the drive if someone enters a wrong password too many times. Get it from http://usbsafeguard.altervista.org Work securely on a remote computer Democrakey offers a suite of handy applications that you can store and run from your USB drive. When you are away from your own PC and want to use the Internet on an unknown PC, Democrakey can keep your data and information safe. It includes the Tor Browser (for anonymous web browsing), Clamwin (to check the PC for viruses), AbiWord (to read Word documents) Thunderbird Portable (with pre-installed add-ons to send anonymous email) and TrueCrypt (for file encryption). Get it from www.democrakey.com Increase performance with Ready Boost With Windows Vista and Windows 7, if you have a fast enough USB flash drive, you can use it for Ready Boost. Ready Boost is a feature that uses the space on your USB drive as extra RAM , instantly boosting the overall speed of your Windows system and programs. Not all USB drives are fast enough to be used for Ready Boost. To check, right click on the drive's icon in My Computer, click Tools and then the Ready Boost tab. For more information: http://goo.gl/JztRI Use it as a 'key' to access several PCs You might have seen this before in the movies; a USB drive is inserted into a computer and it immediately springs to life. A free application called Predator can be used for exactly the same thing. Download and install Predator, and pair a USB drive with it. With the USB drive plugged in, you can continue to work, but as soon as it is removed, the screen darkens, the computer locks, and keyboard/mouse input is disabled. Plug it back in, and normal usage is restored. Get it from: www .montpellier-informatique.com/predator Make a "life-backup" This can literally be a life saver. Many of us may have not stopped to think about what would happen if we lost all our belongings in a fire, flood or natural calamity. The size and portability of a USB flash drive is actually ideal to store digital copies of all your important documents like bank information, credit card details, birth certificates, legal papers, insurance papers and anything else that ties into yours or your family's life. Be sure to keep one away at in a locker or at a friend's place in another city for extra peace of mind. Source: Economic Times
  4. The Off Topic Thread

^ ^ ^ Hmmm... After Vidya Balan's "Kahaani", Ek aur "kahaani"... Filme sirf 3 vajah se chalti hai... Entertainment, Entertainment aur Entertainment... Aur upar ki kahaani me kafi entertainment hai..
  5. I don't think it's case of co-incidence or unaware Customer Care. Just to verify the confusion, i called up customer care. The person at other end seemed knowledgeable and was knowing what he is talking. He clearly said that these plans were available but discontinued just 4-5 days back and now only Pay As You Go Plan is available as well as the plans mentioned here >> http://www.rcom.co.i...rnet_phone.html Now this 4-5 days period matches nicely with Reliance CDMA Tablet launch. My theory is that they might have withdrawn these mobilenet plans to hawk these tablet specific data plans >> http://www.rcom.co.i...iffs_Plans.html Otherwise the CDMA tablet being OMH (Reliance locked), they would have no means to control customers using the cheaper mobilenet plans on tablet. Sounds plausible?
  6. Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos GSM + CDMA

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos Review >> http://tech2.in.com/...s-review/289252 The reviewer mentions.. Not too sure if the above is true, but if it is, then it greatly diminishes the value of this CDMA + GSM Dual SIM because most people may like to use it for cheap GSM GPRS data alongwith CDMA voice.
  7. If it's real OMH Device, it should work with MTS / TATA OMH SIM Card too ?
  8. ^ ^ ^ Satire... What does the Wikipedia say..
  9. I can't believe one another thing but it's mentioned in terms and conditions.. Just 6 Paisa Per MB! So even if your additional usage is let's say 1 GB more, You'll pay only Rs 61 Extra!!! (1024MB x 6 Paisa / 100 ) Is my maths correct or there is an asterik hidden somewhere?
  10. HTC EVO Design Review

An android mobile with non-removable battery will be like a Mig20 Fighter Jet without an eject switch for the pilot.. What happens when it crash lands and you have to do a pull out.. For the Battery that is..
  11. That's absurd.. By that yardstick, would they not give postpaid connection to millions of people who live in rented accomodation without deposits? It seems for Tata Docomo "Har Ek Friend Zaroori Nahi Hai".. Funny!!!
  12. Looks like it is RUIM Card based as per info given in terms & conditions on RCom website..
  13. Beats Audio Now Available For Any Gingerbread ROMs Source Source Now it seems almost all smartphone users can enjoy the popular sound modification. Yes, that’s right. As you may have assumed, Beats Audio on HTC phones has nothing to do with hardware; it’s just an advanced audio equalizer. Beats Audio has been an important part of HTC’s latest marketing strategy, and although some people are skeptical about any sound improvements, look at the the before/after images on a Samsung Galaxy SL at the source. You can hear the best improvement with high quality headphones! And with original Beats Audio one (But of course also with lower cost ones) However, we still have to wait for the ultimate phone that features Motorola build quality, HTC aesthetics, and Samsung screens and internals. This is a Beats Audio Port and should work for all Gingerbread Roms. The sounds will be more natural, playing with more clarity. 14. Planning to order this HDD. Any vouchers applicable on Letsbuy nowadays? Unfortunately No direct public discount codes that i know of for Letsbuy now a days. Letsbuy burnt up enough venture capital cash and stingy Flipkart gobbled them up. Still if you are holding payback card >> https://www.payback....?execution=e1s1 you can utilize the point balance for buying anything on Letsbuy. The only condition Letsbuy has that it does not allow partial redemption of payback points. That is you can't redeem some points and pay the remaining amount by other modes. You need to have sufficient point balance to cover the full value of the item being purchased. Another method is to enter your Payback Card No while purchase. In this you will get 4 Payback points credited for every Rs 100 worth of purchase on Letsbuy. Other than the above, there are specific pages for ICICI and CITIBANK cardholders where the discounts are applicable only on the products listed there http://www.letsbuy.com/icici and http://www.letsbuy.com/citibank

  16. 4G - LTE in India - Some Confusions

Right.. I mean LTE without the proper device and content ecosystem may be a big fail initially particularly in markets like India unless the operators can make it a true value proposition. Imagine Reliance / Tata bidding for 700 Mhz and then asking us to use it on handsets similar to Galaxy POP. Seriously, what can one do with that? However fast it may be, being wireless data with it's inherent limitations, it can never be any serious user's PRIMARY internet connection. So then the question is what more it can do for mobile devices which the existing 3G can't do other than just being a somewhat faster connection? 3G is already giving upto 5-6 mbps for good networks and based on America's experiece, 4G is not going to be 2-3 times faster on ground when you have good number of users on the network using it at a realistic level. Reliance (MDA's) seems to have a strategy of device and content which comes out in selective leaks from time to time. Now they have started investing in Cable Operators. We will have to see how it is, once the services start. But nearly two years after the completion of broadband auction, there are no signs yet of services starting anytime soon. Based on the big talkers but little innovators history of other existing operators, i don't have much hopes from them in this regard. For 700 Mhz, we may be looking at a timeframe of 1.5 to 2 years from NOW for services to be launched once the auction is completed in end 2012 (If auction actually happens then). So LTE = Long Term Evolution.
  17. Bypass/Crack The Windows Admin Login

Don't remember exactly now but i think i have used this tool once to reset even a Windows Server Domain Admin Password. Windows Password Key Enterprise >> http://download.cnet...4-75415549.html Was easy and effective. That's a trial version but one should know how to get the full version from the internet.
  18. 4G - LTE in India - Some Confusions

Understand the meaning of LTE = Long Term Evolution Rarely does one come across a name which signifies the meaning so effectively.
  19. Conference call statement of intents made to analysts are like election manifesto of political parties. Made to make you feel good about the future but hardly any of them ever get implemented in letter and spirit.

  24. @Anton Can't really opine whether Indiavarta can be trusted or not as i have no experience dealing with them. Try contacting some senior guy there instead of customer care if you can find one. He may understand the situation better instead of stock answers from customer care.
