  8. After Aircel and couple of players who started offering free incoming while roaming. Videocon has also joined in as per the news no need to recharge with any special STV. i.e they have abolished incoming roaming charges with immediate effects http://www.telecomtiger.com/Corporate_fullstory.aspx?passfrom=corporate&storyid=17139&section=S162 While people still have to wait till October for the roaming fee to be abolished as promised by the government, Videocon Mobile Services has removed charges on incoming calls. Videocon subscribers can avail of this facility with immediate effect. Under one-nation-one-number cleared by the cabinet, the government plans to remove roaming fees, allowing users to retain their numbers even if they move from one circle or zone to another. “We reiterate our commitment towards 'One Nation - Free Roaming'. To extend the benefits of freedom of movement across our network, we have introduced this offering where our subscribers roaming across Videocon Network will stand to benefit from free incoming calls. There are no strings attached to the proposition, no STVs/recharges required”, said Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Mobile Services. Recently Kapil Sibal said that roaming charges would be abolished in October 2013. National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 provides for free roaming. Without giving any precise date, Sibal said that it would be in place by October 2013. In May 21012 the government gave it nod to the new telecom policy which along with relaxing merger and acquisition norms to encourage consolidation and giving more teeth to sector regulator and de-link spectrum from licences also provides for abolition of roaming charges and allows users to retain the same number across the country.

http://tech2.in.com/news/smartphones/leaked-antutu-benchmark-confirms-galaxy-s4-will-have-an-octacore-exynos-cpu/799202 Leaked Antutu benchmark confirms Galaxy S4 will have an octa-core Exynos CPUThe screenshots also reveal that the Galaxy S4 will launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The forthcoming flagship will also be a true ‘world’ phone, rather than having different variants for each region or carrier. This conclusion is arrived at thanks to the Exynos processor supporting GSM/WCDMA/LTE. The benchmark scores also confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will have a 13-megapixel primary camera, along with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. It will be released in 16GB and 32GB configurations. There is some further speculation about a 64GB version, but that might be a stretch. However, we do know that Samsung’s flagships also feature microSD card slots to further enhance the internal memory. We can also see that the device will have a 4.99-inch, full HD screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Seeing as there is no pixel allowance for on-screen buttons, we think there will be physical buttons just like the older Galaxy S phones. The onscreen buttons in the above screenshots are from the Nexus 4, which was used for the benchmark comparison.

Cabinet approves halving CDMA airwave auction price http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/cabinet-approves-halving-cdma-airwave-auction-price_809182.html The cabinet approved a 50 percent cut in the auction reserve price for airwaves used by phone carriers operating on the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology platform, said Manish Tewari, the minister of information and broadcasting. The decision follows a recommendation by a panel of ministers to cut the price by 30 percent or 50 percent, after the government did not find any taker for the airwaves in a November auction, with carriers complaining the price was too high. Bottlenecks prevails for M&A; telecom tariff may rise: UBS The government had earlier set the reserve price of CDMA airwaves at Rs 3640 crore per megahertz of spectrum in all of India's 22 telecommunication zones, which was 30 percent higher than the minimum auction price for airwaves used by operators on the popular GSM platform. The government plans to conduct the next airwave auction in March. The auction is crucial for the Indian mobile phone unit of Russia's Sistema , which has been ordered by the Supreme Court to shut operations in all but one of the country's 22 telecommunications zones.

  22. Nokia Lumia 920 incompatible with India’s 4G network http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/tech-news/hardware/Nokia-Lumia-920-incompatible-with-Indias-4G-network/articleshow/17783719.cms Nokia Lumia 920, the Finnish manufacturer's flagship phone, will not work on India's 4G network, even though the version headed to this country will support 9 LTE bands. The website of Nokia India lists the bands that the device will work on, including LTE bandwidths. The list does not name LTE 2300 bandwidth, which is the standard in India, even though the smartphone will work on LTE 2100 and LTE 2600 networks. This means that buyers of the device in the country will not be able to enjoy ultrafast download speeds on mobile networks on their Lumia 920. Nokia India has confirmed that the listing on site is correct, thus ruling out all possibilities of 4G in the country. However, this may not be a major issue for most prospective buyers in the country since 4G is so far available in only a few cities and even 3G is trying to catch up. In India and China, Time Division Duplex (TDD) network is used for LTE. However, it is not a commonly used format and most manufacturers do not make phones meant for it. As of now, Huawei Ascend P1 remains the only smartphone compatible with Indian LTE band.
