  1. [Confirming] Sprint LG G2 OMH & GSM Capabilities

^^^ As it was mentioned, I bought the phone from a Sprint Rep or employee, so it is unlocked through Sprint, as there is no 3rd party unlock method found out yet. And about the RUIM part, you can read my other thread about HTC One OMH, that's what I've done, no modded sim or anything(I don't even know if any modded sim is or are available for Android phones, sorry I'm relatively noob in these).
  2. @feeagle99, did you try *288, had a similar problem while trying to provision Sprint LG G2 for OMH Sim cards where I got a message that reads some thing like, 'can not create data connection' and my MIN & other details were blank, I've done *228 and then everything working now. Try it once, if you haven't tried yet.
  3. Lol... this is exact procedure that was asked by DHL to me, and the person who share all the information of the new circular, has said that this is been made as norm and huge number of items have been stuck at chennai because of this process. And he even said the custom officials over there are asking courier the authorised document(they are not even accepting scanned authorisation letters from the people .
  4. Lol... Not two phones, one phone & one case.... that's it. Ended up paying some Rs.9,300/-(shipping + customs) for a single phone.
  5. Yes bro, the whole point of me posting my issue is to tell everyone that avoid DHL if you are from Andhra Pradesh & Tamilnadu(because they are gonna process it through Chennai) in importing any items from other countries. The problem in my case is that I was charged 16% of the assessed value. And after many calls and much followup to know why is that case, I've been called by one of DHL guy who works on the ground with customs officials in clearing items. He revealed an interesting aspect of Customs Duties on Smartphones and as per his version of the story(he backed up with a circular of Indian Customs Department, which I'm also attaching to this post), there is a change in the definition or classification of Tablets & Smartphones. What that circular essentially says is that a Smartphone can or will be considered as Tablet because of the various features it has which coincides with those of Tablets. Below is the particular paragraph he particularly quoted and told me according to this only I was charged 16% of the assessed value instead of 6%. "The difference between a 'Smartphone' and a 'Tablet Computer', is not based on whether the product has a voice calling function or not, but on the principal features that a producer has intended for the device when designing and developing it". I confronted him saying two things 1) LG(any smartphone manufacturer) don't make the smartphones to be tablets but as phones(voice communication purpose) with Data Processing Futures, 2) if every smartphone is been classified by this then there is no way Samsungs, Micormaxs, HTCs & every other manufacturer can import their products to India as smartphones because this rule would have been applied to first to them. He agreed to me on this but it is upto Customs Officials & he even went to say that they don't have any problem like this in their other hubs. But he also said even if it is with other hubs & other courier services, if Customs Officials aware of this rule or decide to use this rule, then no one can stop them because they have every right to do so and slap 16% duties of the assessed value on Smartphones!!. In essence, we the casual importers or some one with business purpose are ***ed up in that case. So, don't be surprised if you are slapped 16% of assessed value on the smartphones. I ADVISE YOU ALL NOT TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER WITH OTHER COURIER SERVICES OTHERWISE THEY MAY TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE AND TRY TO CHARGE EXTRA CLAIMING THE SAME. If you are getting it normally good luck & enjoy it till you can get it so. I'm attaching the concerned 'Circular'. Circular-20-2013.pdf
  6. Slapped Rs.7K as customs on Sprint LG G2 & a case by customs officers , Chennai, a big thanks to impotent DHL guys . Ended up paying Rs.35k for Sprint LG G2. It's been a night mare with DHL(through ComGateway). Assessed value of the phone is Rs.32k & according to DHL's clearance team the customs official has charged 10%(rather than 6% to 7% according to the customs rules) but it doesn't end there, so even if we agree for 10% it should be Rs.3,200(approximately) out of Rs.32k assessed value, but they charged about Rs.5,300, if I ask why & how, they don't answer, they say they will revert back, each time the big loopholes in those charges I get a response they would come revert back to me after some time. And the guy who is incharge, Nikhil Radha(DHL Clearance Team, Chennai), is not responding any more, he is getting his assistants to pick my calls. This guy has been promising me for the last few days he will take care of every thing and see the transaction is smooth for every one. But this is anything but smooth.
  7. I don't know if this is the right section/thread or not, but thought of sharing it because many people will benifit from this. You can get Skype Pro(if I can call it so) 12 months for free. Is Cydia an unofficial app store for IOS?.
  9. Sprint HTC One - Working With OMH SIM

Did you change network type?, The secret code is *#*#4636#*#*(I'm not sure, b'cause I forgot all those codes as I hardly had that phone for about 4 days or so and it was my first HTC phone), there you can assign different network types choose that has every thing included. Better to check with some one who has the phone now. They may guide you correctly.
  10. How are the sellers sourcing phones?

And Produced by Arun & Directed by Rajan Mehta. We only miss heroine here, I know Genius has lot of stock of them lol.. of course I'm talking about pictures(images) . Spoiler Alert: In the next post of Genius the heroines of this movie will be revealed.
  11. How are the sellers sourcing phones?

Damn!! all the ways that I know to get pappies are gone! lol
  12. Exactly, and I've read that the main purpose of this deal is that both avoid laying infrastructure(mainly Towers to cover same areas) in same places, which saves lot of money & time, although those towers may get crowded with connections or customers of both services.
  13. How are the sellers sourcing phones?

You can google 'How To Check Bad Esn' you will have plenty of options, some of them work & some not. @Gurugopal, has mentioned two such sites in the first page of this thread. Coming to the fears of your father that you would be stuck with a stolen phone, I'm sure this is the common doubt prevailing in many of this forum. Let me explain it first what BAD ESN means, 1) A phone becomes BAD ESN if the user doesn't pay his/her bill & choose to stop using the respective network operator services with out paying a final settlement fee. This is b'cause unlike in our country, most of the US carriers offer the gadgets(not only smartphones but tablets, cameras too) at subsidized price or some times even for free with a 2-year contract. So, if the respective user doesn't use the respective operator services till the end of 2-year time period, the network operator looses money. Hence, to disable people repeating this, operators like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint & T-Mobile, blocks the respective ESN/MEID on their networks(in GSM operators case, the MEID will be barred to be used in the entire US). But those phones can be perfectly used in other countries if you are able to unlock or program it to be used on your network operators(in our case, we use CDMA phones on Reliance & TATA). As I mentioned in my previous post, BAD ESN(CDMA phones) can be used even in US itself with other carriers. The best example I can give you people resembling this scenario is, Post-Paid connections, after using for a month or two if you don't pay the bill the operator gonna barr that number to be used, right?. And as you all know, Reliance offering a subsidized Iphone 5C & 5S with monthly rental about 3-5k(not sure the correct amount) with very little or no upfront fee, this is exact model how US operators offer phones to their customers. Now think about this, if you subscribe Reliance subsidize Iphone 5C or 5S and if you don't pay after a month or two and like to keep it with you or sell it to others, there is so much money Reliance will loose in that case, right?. Hence they gonna block that ESN/MEID to be used on their network or may be in India itself. 2) A phone becomes BAD ESN/MEID if it is been reported to be stolen, there are two cases in this case itself. One is that there are really stolen phones & other is phones that are reported as lost/stolen to just claim the insurance & get new phone(so in essence you are getting two phones for a single phone price, that too at a subsidized price). And the second case is the most common thing that the people not only in US but even in UK will do. They just buy it for a subsidized price, sell it for a retail price, and claim that it is stolen or lost, get the new phone with out paying anything. So, forget about the sellers selling here, even if you buy a good ESN/MEID phone directly from US from various sites like Ebay, Craigslist US & get it over here, there is always chance that the phone is being reported as lost/stolen by the original owner(many times original owner is seller himself) even before the item reached you in India. So if you want to absolutely sure that you want to use Good ESN phone(which makes no sense in my opinion) then you need to buy the phones for full prices(usually around $649+ taxes) from Sprint & Verizon, which you can't do it from India, you've to have some one using their services in US. Implications of BAD ESN on us: There will be no issue if you use BAD ESN phones in India, whether they have been blocked for non-payment or they have reported as lost/stolen, you don't even need to think about it. As I said in my earlier post, if you are purchasing a phone to be used for your US trip(in which case you tend to buy a pre-paid service to be used during your stay) don't buy it all b'cause there are very few phones from Verizon & Sprint(almost none except Photon 4G, you have to flash some other models' models to make it work) that can be used in US with GSM operators over there, irrespective of the fact that they are BAD/Good ESN. I think people getting confused by comparing these phones with the phones that are being sold in 'Chor markets' that you usually see in big cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi & Chennai etc., remember this, as long as you don't buy an Indian model(which is been reported as stolen/lost) you are fine with it. Heck even if it is an Indian model, you have to file a FIR & ask operators to block it then only that MEID is barred, otherwise the other person will be enjoying at your cost. So All I want to say is don't worry if the phone is BAD ESN, you will not face any issues in using them.
  14. How are the sellers sourcing phones?

To the OP & all others who are concerned about BAD ESN phones, 1) There is no way for sellers here to offer latest smartphones for such low prices if some of those phones(if not all) are not BAD ESN. 2) The second thing, the people who are looking to use these phones in both India & US are very few(I can even say negligible, I only saw one person requesting a phone that can be used both in India & US in Handset request thread in this forum). If a particular person wants to use in that way he can always check with the seller, I don't think any seller here will lie about it. And how many days you gonna be in US, may be few months at max, hence you tend to get a SIM from some Pre-Pay network operators over there(almost all of them are GSM based) and if you buy a phone of Sprint & Verizon, you aren't gonna be able to use it with any GSM operator in US no matter if it is a Clean ESN or BAD ESN, of course you can overcome those restrictions in some phones. 3) Contrary to the some people's assumption that the maximum percentage of BAD ESN phones are being sold to buyers outside USA, most of the BAD ESN phones are bought by US buyers themselves as there are many other network operators that accept BAD ESN(note: BAD ESN is doesn't necessarily be a stolen phone) phones of big network operators like Verizon & Sprint. And you may not know, but there are lot of ways to make them work with the same carriers too. And there are very few operators that are using CDMA outside US. And to wrap this up & with due respect to OP, I too think & agree with some people who said this topic or thread is unnecessary except for a good reading of a nice fiction story by Genius, because we all know how the sellers import items from US to India, asking their source(or from whom they buy) is just not right, as some one pointed out correctly that you are not gonna ask a retailer in your town from which wholesaler they are buying & at what prices, if you do I'm sure you'll be show the way out of his shop, they why ask here. Those are my two cents, sorry if those hurt any one.
  15. One can import chinese handsets(versions) of any Android flagship, they most probably support LTE 40 Band as it is one of the band widely used in China.
  16. Exactly, migration or upgrading from CDMA to LTE is more difficult for operators than GSM to LTE, but it is no way non-existent or non-executable task, in fact some of the biggest LTE networks are run by CDMA operators, ex: China, US(Verizon & Sprint), etc.,
  17. Google Nexus 5 is Official Finally!

You think the same will be applicable on Indian release. In any case this will make it the most affordable high end handset with Indian omh support. I can easily get it from USA through friends.Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2 As I pointed out here, the cdma version D820 is only made for North America, every other country(which ever is getting Nexus 5) in the world will get D821(GSM version with no CDMA support). They(google) clearly pointed this out in the official specks by naming only two modesl D820(CDMA version for North America) & D821(rest of the world with only GSM support). You can check this out in the first post of this forum. Yogesh, as I said in my PM to you, if you can get Sprint version $99(contract price) it is unbeatable price, I presume from your posts that your brother is using Sprint network in US, since he is a customer of Sprint he can get it unlocked so that it can be used with any GSM in India, even if it is locked by Sprint, so for you it won't be problem. But for others I advise to get clear information before buying a Sprint version whether it is locked by Sprint or not. I also recommend buying directly from Google play store, you get better price & no tension. Because my thinking is that if Sprint is subsidising the phone & selling phone for just $99 means they most probably will lock it(with new software lock they are implementing starting from HTC One).
  18. Can we increase available RAM on smartphones?

As Rajan ji said, the smartphones are still not modular where you can replace or upgrade individual parts(some can in some phones) especially CPU, RAM etc. But it may change soon, if recent reports of Motorola project of making a truly modular phone is in the works. But still I don't think we will be able to upgrade or replace CPU, RAM in phones at least in the near future.
  19. Google Nexus 5 is Official Finally!

Better processor -- YES... Better battery -- I don't think so... If you are just comparing numbers, yes 2300mAh is bigger than 2100mAh.. But if you include the bigger FHD screen, various modems (inlcudes GSM, CDMA, LTE, whereas Nexus4 has GSM and NO cdma or LTE modems enabled) that extra 200mAh is NOT much, imho... But I've a case(through little of bit of reading I've done) to disagree with you, first of all let's take screen it is confirmed that Nexus 5 will have same GRAM technology which is being used in LG G2, and that technology is claimed to be 20% more power efficient than others(which was agreed with by many technical blogs, I think Anandtech has a blog post on this). But GRAM is nothing but a small amount of RAM built into Display technology(module) so that, to refresh all those millions of pixels the normal RAM doesn't need to be powered on every time. This is much helpful when the screen has to be fed with static content. Secondly, LTE modems, LG Nexus 5 comes with a technology that reduces around 20% power usage of LTE modems when compared to even the flagship phones of the first part of this year. The technology is called LTE Envelope Tracking, already many technical blogs have written & confirmed that Nexus 5 has this. Read this little post by a XDA member to what this technology is about. And for third point, I would like to say Snapdragon 800 SoC is much more power efficient than Snapdragon 600 SoC apart from being more powerful, so in essence S800 SoC is more powerful SoC & less power hungry when compared to S600 SoC. I've read somewhere(I'll try to find the source), that Snapdragon 800 SoC has LTE modems built into the SoC unlike 600 SoC that powered almost all the flagships of the first part of this year which reduces power usage of modems much more.(Note: As far I know Qualcomn started integrating LTE Modems into SoCs from Snapdragon S4 but didn't implement in every subsequent model or generation of SoC since then). Why I'm comparing this to Snapdragon 600 SoC based smartphones is that most of those S600 SoC based phones like HTC One, have decent battery backup if not the best of the best(no matter what is done in tweaking the rest of the hardware but a 2300mAh powered phone will not beat a 3300 mAh powered phone in battery packup) but it's more than adequate for normal usage. Most of the people are happy with the battery backup that they are having with phones like HTC One(although power users do need some more juice). With all the improvements that I've mentioned above, Nexus 5 is a safe be to say it will have much more battery life than N4 or even phones based on S600 SoC. And the preliminary reports(one of the such thread) by normal users on XDA forums proves the same. As I said it may not beat phones like MAXX version of Motorola or LG G2 but I think it will provide more than enough juice for a normal day of a normal user(a 'normal user' can be vague term). Yes it's a disappointment, but some people especially from the north(India), will be lucky as some of Network operators like Videocon are deploying LTE(FDD based) on 1800Mhz spectrum. And it is being reported that many others including Airtel are planning to go that direction if they are able to grab 1800 Mhz spectrum in the upcoming spectrum auction. That's a small hope.
  20. Google Nexus 5 is Official Finally!

As it is clearly stated in the specs, every Nexus 5 sold in North-America(Model No: D820), is both CDMA & GSM Capable. Although it can't be used on Verizon. The rest of the world edition(Model No: D821) is GSM only. Rajan Ji, Nexus 5 that is being sold on Google Play store(US) is also a CDMA capable, in fact Sprint has confirmed to AndroidCentral.com that any Nexus 5 that is bought on Google Play store(US) can be brought to them and they will activate the same. NOTE: On a side note, my Nexus 5 is on its way from Lousiville, KY(UPS hub that is being used as the center for all the shipments of Nexus 5 in US) to my shipping forward service hub. I may have it in hand 10 days from now  .

^^^^ Some reports suggest that the figure of 7 lakhs is for both Odisha & Northern Andhra Pradesh, any way this is the biggest mass evacuation that Indian Government has under taken in almost 23 years, according to the some other reports(I think it is a NDTV report as well). Many NDRS teams are deployed & central government has readied troops for the biggest rescue operation in the recent history. But thankfully, it wasn't needed mainly because of the mass evacuation. The result of well preparedness is just 5 deaths reported till now, which otherwise would have been in thousands. And surprisingly, this cyclone has no impact in my area(as I said in my previous posts I live 40km from the center of the city, Visakhapatnam), I still remember the devastation that the 1999 cyclone, that hit Odisha & Northern Andhra, has left even in my place(trees were uprooted & electrical poles were flattened). But just nothing now, it's been normal & even today is a bright sunny day. You can track the latest updates of IMD here
  22. Apple Announces iPhone 5S & iPhone 5C

This is one of its kind, insane & hillarious(atleast to me). We know IOS 7 is a blend of both Windows Phone 8 & Jellybean, but never thought Apple would copy till to the Blue Screen of Windows(although Windows Phone 8 deosn't have any BSOD errors reported so far). Ok enough rants. But seriously, the following video shows, the newly released Iphone 5s(Note: this occurs only in Iphone 5s but not in Iphone 5c) showing one more feature of its, BSOD(Blue Screen of Death) which is familiar to Windows users(especially in XP times). The BSOD on Iphone 5s can be triggered(or is triggered) when the user tries to use & multi-task between iWork apps. No error is shown on the blue screen but a reboot follows the blue screen immediately. And some users have already found a workaround for this problem, which is to stop iCloud syncing for Apple's Pages, Keynote, and Numbers apps. Apple is yet to acknowledge(as of the posting of this thread) and may have to release another update to recently released IOS7. Apple released an update of IOS 7.0.2 to plug the gap which allowed users to bypass lockscreens. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNw457joq5I
  23. News Snippets

They better prepare that, because according to the latest readings of storm strength, the strength of this super cyclone(although IMD hates to call it so) is 886mb, 150KT, (170MPH), which puts it at an equal strength to Hurricane 'Wilma' the mightiest hurricane ever recorded in Atlantic basin and larger than that. And I was watching every story on this storm on every news channel as possible, in each one of them IMD still hesistant to put it atleast a category 4 storm(although its not a feel good matter, giving right warnings to the people on the ground motivate them to be more vigilant). I don't know how it is in your region, but as of now(5.30am) here is Visakhapatnam(I live around 40km away from the center of the city in south-west direction) it's just partly cloudy nothing more, no winds or rain yet(its the same calmness all through the night). As the famous saying goes, 'Every storm is preceded by a absolute calmness'(sorry for the not fully correct translation). Edit: Just at the brink of its landfall, 'Phailini' intensity decreased slightly thanks to Eyewall replacement process. Presently, the speeds will be at 135KT or 150MPH, still a cat.4 storm.
