Guys!

Here r some settings, some of which I hv already told in my previous posts.

But now I'm telling those settings for different-2 configurations.

So try the settings, which is best suited to ur needs:

For fast computers and fast connections, optimal settings.

browser.display.show_image_placeholders: False

network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 32
network.http.max-connections-per-proxy: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 32
network.http.pipelining: True
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 32
network.http.proxy.pipelining: True

Quick and Dirty Settings

network.http.pipelining: True
network.http.pipelining.firstrequest: True
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 8
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0

Common to all configurations

These are the settings that seem to be common to all configuration files regardless of connection speed or computer speed with a couple of additions - plugin paths can be found with about:plugins and the bookmark menu delay is turned off.

network.http.pipelining: True
network.http.proxy.pipelining: True
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 8
content.notify.backoffcount: 5
plugin.expose_full_path: True
ui.submenuDelay: 0

Fast Computer Fast Connection

content.interrupt.parsing: True
content.max.tokenizing.time: 2250000
content.notify.interval: 750000
content.notify.ontimer: True
content.switch.threshold: 750000
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0
network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 8
browser.cache.memory.capacity: 65536

A couple settings of note - Firefox is allocated 4096 KB of memory by default and in this configuration we give it roughly 65MB as denoted by the last line. This can be changed according to what is used.

Fast Computer, Slower Connection

This configuration is more suited to people without ultra fast connections. I'm not talking about dial up connections but slower DSL / Cable connections.

content.max.tokenizing.time: 2250000
content.notify.interval: 750000
content.notify.ontimer: True
content.switch.threshold: 750000
network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 8
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0
browser.cache.memory.capacity: 65536

Fast Computer, Slow Connection

browser.xul.error_pages.enabled: True
content.interrupt.parsing: True
content.max.tokenizing.time: 3000000
content.maxtextrun: 8191
content.notify.interval: 750000
content.notify.ontimer: True
content.switch.threshold: 750000
network.http.max-connections: 32
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 4
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0
browser.cache.memory.capacity: 65536

Slow Computer, Fast Connection

content.max.tokenizing.time: 3000000
content.notify.backoffcount: 5
content.notify.interval: 1000000
content.notify.ontimer: True
content.switch.threshold: 1000000
content.maxtextrun: 4095
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 1000
network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 8
dom.disable_window_status_change: True

One of the changes made for this particular configuration is the final line where the status bar is disabled for changing web pages to save processor time.

Slow Computer, Slow Connection

I hv entered the doldrums of the dial-up user...

content.max.tokenizing.time: 2250000
content.notify.interval: 750000
content.notify.ontimer: True
content.switch.threshold: 750000
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 750
network.http.max-connections: 32
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 4
dom.disable_window_status_change: True

This new version is gr8.

I found it a little bit faster than previous ones.

Options interface has been changed, looking good.

Some more options hv been added. like when we click on a tab, it shows 2 more options "bookmark this tab" and "Bookmark all tabs". A new option has been added in Options menu "Clear Private data", which lets u clear cookies, cache, passwords, etc.

The ERROR interface has also been changed.

New interface is cool and has a "Try again" button too.

I'm attaching a screenshot of it:

As a temp fix in 1.0.6 Mozilla recommended disabling IDN (network.enableidn=False).

I installed 1.0.7 over 1.0.6 and the thing was still turned disabled --- probably by using existig settings.

Should I enable again?

Firefox: Honeymoon Over?

This had to happen sooner or later. I guess the time has come.

As read from wxpnews

We've said before that the primary security advantage Firefox had over Internet Explorer was the fact that it was used by only a fraction of the computer using population. This made it a less attractive target for hackers - why waste your time and effort writing exploits for a program that would only affect a small percentage of users, when your IE exploits would reach so many more? This is called, in the IT security biz, security through obscurity. And contrary to popular belief, it works - for a while. The problem is that obscurity tends not to last. As more and more people have switched to Firefox for its security advantage, its own growing popularity has made it more of a target. Now, according to security expert George Ou, the tipping point has been reached: Firefox now has more vulnerabilities per month than IE. Read George's blog article on this at

http://www.wxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=050920TI-Firefox

Valid point there....

Anyways, all said and done, i would still stick to firefox.

Extend Firefox Contest Announced

Mozilla Corporation has announced the Extend Firefox Contest, to encourage development of extensions to the Firefox Web browser.

Extensions are small add-ons that add new functionality to Firefox. They can be anything from a toolbar button to a completely new feature. The contest is expected to generate hundreds of new extensions for Firefox, allowing people to further personalize their Web browsing experience, and to make surfing the Web even more fun and convenient.

Developers can tap into the Mozilla Developer Center (MDC), which will be hosting the contest, to find resources and pointers to help create extensions for Firefox. The contest also coincides with the launch of Firefox 1.5 - expected later this year - and developers are encouraged to take advantage of Firefox 1.5's new features.

Christopher Beard, head - products and marketing, Mozilla, said, "We're eager to see what our developer community has in store for Firefox users, with this call for the next wave of extensions. We, and most importantly, our users, have been very pleased with the extensions that have been developed over the last year - the breadth and depth of the Firefox Extensions currently available is a testament to the strength of Firefox as a platform for innovation."

Mozilla has confirmed a list of industry notables to judge the contest, when it concludes on January 6, 2006. The judges are : Aaron Boodman, software engineer and creator of GreaseMonkey, Google; Amber MacArthur, co-host and co-producer, Call for Help on G4TechTV; Brendan Eich, CTO, Mozilla Corporation; Chris Shipley, executive producer, Demo Conference; Jeremy Zawodny, technical lead, Yahoo!; Omar Wasow, executive director, BlackPlanet.com and Robert O'Callahan, software engineer and long-time Mozilla contributor, Novell.

Three winners will each receive an Alienware Aurora 7500 Firefox Edition PC and a Firefox 1.5 Prize Pack which includes a T-shirt, cap, and laptop bag.

Eight winners (Best in Class) will each receive an Apple iPod Nano, O'Reilly books, and a Firefox 1.5 Prize Pack which includes a T-shirt, cap, and laptop bag.

Yes!

Its a problem in newer Firefox releases, that our previous extensions might not work in them.

But there is a solution for this problem!

nightly-0.7.7 extension allows to use Extensions, which dont work in newer releases without ne problem :quest:

I'm attaching it! (Its a RAR file, extract it and install the extension).

Vishal:

You can also edit the config file and change the version value there to "1.0". This fixes most of the extensions.

However the problem remains well because of incompatible code! Let me give you an example - I use the USER AGENT SWITCHER extension to "change" FF into IE when I go the Standard Chartered online banking page. This trick works fine in making SC believe that I'm using IE to access their page since they dont allow other browsers to open that page! However, even though the extension has loaded in 1.5 RC3 I cannot use it in the SC online banking page!
