China based mobile and telecom equipment major, Huawei Telecom today announced the launch of new low cost Android based smart phone ‘IDEOS’ in India.

IDEOS will run on the latest iteration of Android 2.2 (also known as ‘Froyo’) and it has a 2.8-inch 240×320 capacitive touchscreen and 3.2 mega pixel camera, brightness, proximity and accelerometer sensors and powered with a 528 MHz processor.

The ergonomically designed IDEOS provides a variety of ways to access the Internet, as it boasts downlink speeds of more than 7.2Mb/s, offers UMTS/WCDMA + WiFi dual network support, and offers ubiquitous mobile broadband services. The device also doubles as a WiFi router for up to eight devices at a time, making IDEOS an all-in-one solution for a range of wireless connectivity options.

Available in black, yellow, blue, and purple, the IDEOS, with Android 2.2 pre-installed, not only runs fast, but also supports functions such as voice dialing, voice navigation, and the ability to run applications off the SD card. With more than 70,000 applications available in the Android Market, IDEOS provides a wide range of communication, entertainment, office, and financial management applications.

The connectivity options also include Bluetooth and navigation (GPS) support. The handset will be available in the Indian markets by Nov 2010 and will be priced around Rs5000.

Kevin Tao, CEO of Huawei Device, said, “We are proud to have already achieved our goal from early 2010 of developing a US$150 smartphone with an excellent user experience. The IDEOS is an affordable option, designed to lower barriers to entry to allow easy mobile Internet access.”

If they are able to hit the 5K price point as they claim, it will be a great value offering...

China make more than 50% oof manufactured goods. So better we get rid of china syndrom. Even stuffs made elsewhere are more than 50% chinese. 7500 would be good price.

Second you on that. If the device will be really available at this price point with features mentioned then its a very good deal.

However it is just announced and will be available by November 2010. All this paper launches really s**ks!

It should have been a dual SIM phone (like most other Chinese phones). That would have made it a killer combo.

Its being sold @ 12000 in ebay india and being sold @ 11000 (converted price) in ebay international sites. Despite company advertising @ 5000rs, we dont see a similar pricing at sales anywhere in this world

Even this stuff rebranded as Tmobile comet is being sold @ $249(lowest price in ebay). Searching in google couldnot find any sites open for sales @ around $150-200.

:previous: 11 / 12 k ?? :Equivocado: It isn't worth anywhere even close to that. Anyway, those must be market pieces. For that much, your could by Galaxy 3 or Moto Quench with better specs. Besides, Huawei being a Chinese co., one expects lower price. Not worth buying unless its available at the expected price of around 5 k. Edited by raccoon

Huawei Ideos to launch in India this month for a sub 8K price

Huawei-IDEOS.jpg

One of the most talked about Android launches of the year is finally making its way to India. At the ongoing India Telecom 2010, we visited the Huawei booth and got out first good look at the cheapest Android 2.2 smartphone.

Huawei Ideos was first announced at the IFA trade fair in Germany, and subsequently launched in many countries and got rave reviews, but it is yet to make its debut in India. During our small talk with the Huawei Team, they said Ideos will be the first of their Android 2.2 range to be launched in India and it will happen very soon i.e. this month. Officially they have not decided a final price for the smartphone, but according the company, the price would be sub Rs 8,000; we hope it comes down to sub 7,000 to beat Micromax Andro pricewise.

Huawei Ideos is a feature packed FroYo powered smartphone, which was manufactured in partnership with Google to make Android a mass OS. It features a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen, 528MHz processor, 3.2MP camera, brightness, proximity and accelerometer sensors built in, MicroSD storage, Android Vanilla UI, HSDPA, Bluetooth and Wi-FI connectivity.

Earlier, they had stated that the price would be around 5.5 k!

IMO, it needs to be priced appreciably lower than Samsung Galaxy 5 (currently around Rs. 8.5 k), to look attractive. Otherwise, why would one want to choose this over Galaxy 5?

Micromax Andro is priced Rs 7000 comes with Android 2.1 and resistive touch screen - and also note it is rebranded ZTE penguin.

While Huawei IDEOS is a google experience device, tested in Google Labs, has Android v2.2 and capacitative touch screen. When Huawei officially launch it in India it may be priced in the same league of Micromax Andro A60. I do not think Huawei IDEOS is not that bad as you are thinking guys. Remember DELL intros 2 smartphones in India which are actually made by ZTE also.
