HTC One - The New Android Flagship

Recommended Posts

HTC One earns 1 out of 10 Repairability Score, a first ever and lowest for a cellphone from iFixit. :(
There is every possibility of damaging the display while opening the phone.

Wow. After seeing the Teardown, I wonder how the service center people themselves would fix something on the HTC One? (Simple - no repairs, only replacements! Once your warranty is down - you're down  )

^^^ similar to iPhone and HTC is believing that their handsets don't required any repairs. Infact their recent series is difficult to service.

HTC One 802W For China Spotted With Removable Cover, Dual SIM Slots And MicroSD Slot

htc-one-802w-c-1364977633.jpg

Much like how three (or four) of the major US carriers will be getting the HTC One, China's three carriers will also be receiving the same treatment, according to the country's official device approval database. The three flavors are known as 802w, 802t and 802d, each heading to China Unicom (WCDMA), China Mobile (TD-SCDMA) and China Telecom (CDMA), respectively. For the record, the European version we have is 801n, so perhaps the third digit represents the number of SIM slots featured on the device.

This is certainly the case for the 802w. Earlier today, a Sina Weibo user posted the above photo of said phone with its back cover -- between the two plastic lines -- removed, thus exposing not only its two SIM card slots but also a microSD slot just below the camera. It's worth noting that the European version of the One doesn't come with a removable back cover, let alone a secondary SIM slot or a microSD slot; but at least it has LTE, right?

Oops.. HTC One takes 3.73 hours to fully charge the battery!!!

True. Sadly, Its way too high.

But then Brian Klug also pointed that "....the charge curve gets the One to 85–90 percent under the normal 3 or so hours, it’s that last ten percent that takes forever. I also have confirmed that Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is not being used on the HTC One, for whatever reason, possibly to maximize compatibility with the portable USB battery chargers that are now proliferating. The PMIC is there, it just isn’t enabled. My guess would be that HTC wants to prioritize battery longevity and minimize any even potential extra wear since the battery on the One is sealed inside."

Also the best part is Brian Klug has never given any smartphone an editors choice award before. For the HTC One he gave Editors Choice Gold award, which is their second highest award.

HTC Mini: A Glorified Bluetooth Headset or The Answer To All Our Phablet Woes?

htc-mini-htc-one.jpg

In the year 2013 a smartphone is many things. It is a camera, gaming console, social media hub, television set, internet browser, planner and an all out miniature computer that fits in your pocket. However, it’s all too easy to forget that a smartphone is at heart still a PHONE.

There are those of us who claim that we look stupid holding our Galaxy Note 2’s and other 5-inch+ behemoths to our heads to talk. They long for the days when you could completely wrap your hand around your Nokia and it would barely seem as if you were on the phone. Maybe it was easier to get away with talking on the phone while driving? Who knows?

But hang on, you still want to be able to tweet, game, snap photos and browse the web on their smartphone? Well, HTC has heard your screams for help on those lonely nights. The company has created a device which they have quite aptly named the HTC Mini, designed to help you conquer your phablet problems.

The HTC Mini is a product designed to act as what could be considered a Bluetooth headset replacement or rather as HTC put it “an enhanced Bluetooth accessory”. A throwback to the old feature phone days, it is basically a phone for your phone.

htcmini_1.jpg

Hang on, before you dismiss this as a ludicrous idea and claim HTC have well and truly lost their marbles, it does more than make a simple phone call. It can search through your contacts on its tiny 1.6 inch screen, let you read and reply to texts, let you check your calendar, play music remotely and take pictures remotely. This would be especially helpful in removing that dreaded camera shake and to take timed shots and timelapse video. After taking the photos you can then remotely view them in a style reminiscent to Microsoft PowerPoint.

Setting up the device is quite simple, since the Mini has NFC capabilities and with a simple tap it pairs with your smartphone through Bluetooth.

With a range of about 10 metres, some would see it useful for use in an office environment while their phone is on charge. Others could see it as a solution to pulling their phones out of their exceptionally tight jeans to you or make calls and to reply to text messages. However, that is not recommended as the device has no touch screen and instead you must type on the alphanumeric keyboard provided.

However, the ultimate blow to those who still shudder at the thought of raising a 5 inch smartphone to their heads, is that it is not sold as a separate device and is only available in China, free with a HTC Butterfly and on some telcos in Singapore. Not only that, but if you were planning on grabbing it as a companion device for your Galaxy Note 2 you’ll be disappointed to know that you’ll be limited to calling capabilities and without a SIM slot for itself the Mini would be nothing but a paperweight for those looking for a feature phone made by HTC.

Nokia Granted Preliminary Injunction Against HTC One In The Netherlands Over High-Amplitude Mics

htcnokiainjunction.jpg

Don't worry, this time it's not a patent issue. However, it is more bad news for HTC's already-delayed One. Nokia has been granted an injunction by the Amsterdam district court concerning the technology HTC used in its current flagship. The legal battle involves a pair of high-amplitude mics housed within One's aluminum body, which are apparently the same dual-membrane components that Nokia's used in its recent Lumia 720, seen above.

The Finnish company recently applied for a preliminary injunction, pointing the finger at ST Microelectronics, which is responsible for manufacturing the mic for both Nokia and HTC. According to our source, the issue is likely to be a breach of an NDA between Nokia and ST Electronics, as the phone maker asserts that the "microphone components [were] invented by and manufactured exclusively for Nokia." We're still hearing new details and will update as we learn more. We've also reached out to HTC for comment. For now, you can read up on Nokia's statement following the court's decision, embedded after the break.

Update: HTC has offered up an official statement in response to the injunction: "HTC is disappointed in the decision. We are considering whether it will have any impact on our business and we will explore alternative solutions immediately."

Dipesh is right mate.. For the models sold with bootloader locked like ATT and T-MO one's there is no exploit to get it unlocked as of now. Also its not supported via HTC DEV .

HOwever i'm sure this will change in week or two.

HTC One with Nexus User Experience: Everything You Need To Know

HTC and Google announced the stock Android version of HTC One smartphone yesterday. Set to go on sale in United States on June 26, the smartphone has been priced at $599. As there was no proper press release or announcement, lot of questions were left unanswered.

HTC_One_nexus.png

Various blogs like Android Central, Android Police and The Verge got hold of the answers for many of these questions from HTC America or Google’s Hugo Barra and we have compiled a quick list of all these answers for you. May be these will satisfy any and all of your HTC One with Nexus experience queries.

Which Android version is it running on and who will be providing future Android updates?

HTC One with NUE aka Nexus User Experience (we will referring to it as NUE for rest of the post) will come with Android 4.2.2 and Google will provide future Android updates.

How much is the internal storage?

32GB and there is no microSD card like the retail version

Will FM Radio, IR Blaster or Beats Audio work on HTC One with NUE?

No, No, and Yes. Beats Audio is hardware integrated but you can’t make any software tweaks. IR Blaster and FM radio won’t work.

Will the HTC One’s weird button configuration remain same in HTC One with NUE?

Yes, home button is still on the right and long press for Google Now and a double-tap for recent apps.

What about camera customisations and will stock app affect the quality?

There will be no camera customisations like Zoe in HTC One with NUE as it uses stock Android camera app. The Ultrapixel camera sensor is still present, so most probably you will get the same quality as HTC one retail version. Even Google’s Hugo Barra said – it’ll just “do what it does.”

What about other software customisations like Blinkfeed?

If you are really concerned about them, you are better off with retail version as HTC One with NUE will not have any of this and run pure Android.

What about availability, will it ever make it out of United States?

According to HTC, it will be available in the United States initially, but there are chances that it might be released outside US.

What about network and LTE compatibility?

Here is the list of support networks.

HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz

GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

As you can see the device supports GSM networks, so no luck for CDMA users. You will also get to use LTE on T-Mobile and AT&T in the United States.

Will it be SIM-unlocked and bootloader unlocked?

Yes, HTC One with NE will be SIM-Unlocked. The bootloader however will be locked out of the box similar to other Nexus devices but you can very easily unlock it with a single command.

HTC One with Nexus User Experience full specifications

  • Size: 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3mm

  • Weight: 143g

  • Display: 4.7 inch, Full HD 1080p, 468 PPI

4MP camera of HTC One can match 13MP of S4?

I've seen pics comparison on gsm arena. I think pics taken by s4 is better than One or i5.

But I'm a layman when it comes to cameras. So experts can tell better.

Tho HTC One is one stunningly beautiful handset. Awesome feel when your hold it in your hands. Better than plasticky S4.
