FBI arrested Shopclues founder Sandeep Aggarwal on the charges of insider trading in 2009 Source FBI agents in San Jose has arrested Sandeep Aggarwal, founder of Shopclues.com, a former Wall Street analyst on insider trading charges states the Tweets by FBI New York Bureau and reports on Business insider. Sandeep is alleged of tipping Richard Lee, a SAC Capital portfolio manager about a pending deal between Yahoo and Microsoft in 2009. In 2009, Sandeep was working as an analyst in Collins Stewart and was covering both Microsoft and Yahoo for his research firm. According to a SEC release, he was receiving regular updates from his sources in Microsoft and passed on very specific information to Lee over a phone call, upon learning about the upcoming Microsoft – Yahoo deal. According to American insider trading law, the first-time offenders are eligible to receive probation rather than incarceration and Sandeep might have to pay the penalty ‘related to the amount of profit’ that can be proved against him. But according to this detailed report on the case by Bloomberg, Sandeep might face as long as 25 years in prison if convicted on the charges against him. Post his US stint Sandeep started online marketplace Shopclues.com in India in Nov 2011 with USD 2 million in funding from unknown foreign angle investors. Initially the Courier name was given as 'BlueDart' and on repeated followup with 'ShopClues' by phone & mail, came to know that it was sent thru 'DTDC'. Already worried due to arrest News & this wrong courier detailing added further tension. Price was reduced by Rs.500 in 'Shopclues' the very next day of my ordering the TV. Immediately - before shipping / delivery, I sent a mail and followed up for getting the TV with latest discounted price. After couple of mails, 'Shopclues' disowned saying "this is to inform you that Shopclues is a market place. Merchant sale product on our website.. . . we will not be able to fulfill your request.". Unfortunately on another online sale also the same TV's price was dropped by Rs.700/-, before I received the ordered TV. Moral of the Story: Don't trust one online Stores; keep looking for more discount announcement - especially for Home Electronic items. Only registered users of the site would be able to avail the deal with only one deal available per user. The company says it expects more than 20,000 people to avail of the onion promotion.
