http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-08-19/computing/41424358_1_blackberry-users-iphone-users-iphone-owners iPhone owners vain, BlackBerry users earn more: Study - Times of India LONDON: Do you consider a mobile phone to be a device useful just for making calls and texts? Well, if you think so, you are mistaken, as a new research has revealed that the phone we use can be a window into the lives we lead. The study, which asked iPhone and BlackBerryusers to rate their attractiveness on a scale of one to ten, found that while owners of Apple devices gave themselves a six, BlackBerry users thought they were only worthy of a five, Metro.co.uk reported. It was found that people who possess a BlackBerry earn nearly 2,500 pounds more per year and work less for it. The study commissioned by TalkTalk also showed that iPhone users are vain and spend the most on clothes and grooming. They love to travel and label themselves as daring, flirty, bright and confident. Meanwhile, BlackBerry users are more likely to be in a long-term relationship and have the most friends. They are busier, send more messages and emails and make more calls than their Apple opposites. The research surveyed 2,000 owners of the three major smartphone brands to determine whether the choice of handset was an extension of their personality. People using Android phone were found to be hard working but drink the most alcohol. They are also a devoted TV addict, shy, quiet and calm
  3. Guru Gopal Ji always seems to have the latest bleeding edge gadgets. Any views on the Oculus Rift ? I am planning to pre-order these - the reviews are pretty good.
  4. A little better than R.Pi. Uses allwinner soc & mali gpu so i think it should have good performance. However, for $ 60 you can usually get cheap allwinner based chinese tablets so this has limited appeal - only for some arcane product ideas or maybe for industrial automation etc. Only advantage is that it runs proper linux so development is pretty quick unlike the tablets where you need to work with android. If someone has a good product idea we can explore the feasibility.
  5. The Off Topic Thread

^ just one correction: the figures for "individual taxpayers" does not include businesses. However, your point stands that probably most of the business owners should still be in above 10 Lac pa bracket as individuals. But they have options to show income as dividend or to get their expenses done by their companies etc while salaried taxpayers are the worst hit as they have no such option. On the other hand the businesses owned by these business owners already pay 33% tax (even if it is on their bottom line i.e. after expenses, unlike individuals who pay on their top line). Avoiding corporate tax for a business, even a small business, is no longer possible any longer with MAT and interconnected govt depts, you can only optimize it a bit and it hurts the owners too when they get nothing in return for paying huge taxes and providing employment and taking the risk of running a business. Yes, a huge amount of informal businesses don't pay taxes but I guess they would anyway fall well below 10 lac income levels.
  6. ^ I agree fully Hitesh bhai. Will start trying out Avast now since you are recommending. Have been with AVG for too long i guess. My biggest problem with MSE is that I can't get any info on suspicious files, it just says it was blocked and you have option to unblock. On top of that it blocks almost everything so too many false positives. And its not clear if its scanning USB pen drives etc on access or not. Otherwise, its quite idiot proof.
  7. Believe me AVG is actually excellent. There is no need to buy an AV. You can go for MSE if you don't like AVG. Don't want to get in a flame war here, but I have been using it for 6-7 years on all machines and have had zero infections inspite of multiple virus outbreaks in office and using known to be infected pendrives. On Win 8 machines I have started remaining with the inbuilt Microsoft Security Essentials. But I still prefer AVG if I know there's some hostile/suspicious stuff around and install it for some days and then remove and switch back to MSE.
  8. Must Have Android Apps For Your Smartphone - Part II

Try this call recorder. It even works on my BB Z10 (after converting apk to bar) when NO native BB app is able to record calls from "line" (they record from speaker phone). It has been automatically recording all calls from "line" since last 2 months and I have set it to delete calls older than 2 weeks. So i just save the 1-2 calls I need to save. It doesn't put caller name in the audio file name so that's a bit of a hassle sometimes. I think it should work for you. Else see the other apps in the linked topic.
  9. I am facing a really strange problem in iPhone 4 CDMA. Inspite of various efforts by me & Gaurav, we are unable to understand the source of this problem. Request Gurus to please enlighten. Details are given below:- On getting the phone from Gaurav I asked web world to transfer my number and after dialling *228 it started working for calls & sms. However, after 2 days i noticed that its not making or receiving calls. On dialing any number it instantly says disconnected and incoming callers hear "phone is switched off" message. It starts working after 4-5 hours or a day. Then it stops again after 2-3 days. Signal bar is full and its NOT an AKEY issue as even after entering the correct akey it doesn't start working. And even if i don't enter akey it will start working on its own after some time. Gaurav even changed the ROM to stock ROM (from earlier Chinese ROM) as suggested by Genius but the problem reappeared after 2 days. Its on iOS Version: 4.2.8 (8E401). Phone shows the following: PRL: 212 ERI: 5 MDN: 000 000 4660 Gaurav knows about the baseband etc issues and has ensured that baseband is not upgraded changing the ROM. Since it works sometimes, so we think it shouldn't be a MIN, PRL or Network related issue other wise it wouldn't work at all. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem as phone's new & hw issue would probably be permanent or at least degrading quickly to a permanent problem. Couldn't find any one with similar problem on the internet even (except this 1 topic - but it doesn't have much details) Which leaves us with no other suspect for this problem. I am at my wits end waith this thing. Any advice resulting in fixing this will have a Sixpack of Kingfisher (or your favourite brand) being delivered to your doorstep. If you need to know any other technical details then either me or Gaurav will post it here. I think I have included everything.
  10. iPhone Offer Query

It needs a relianceada.com email ID. But there's nothing much to see there, its the same price list as posted by the OP. 10% discount (cash back) on the MRP. And a 0% interest 6 month EMI scheme.
  11. Sprint iPhone 5 on Reliance CDMA?

    Gurugopalji, What is RSIM 7 & RSIM 8 ?
  12. I need to buy a ADSL WiFi router for MTNL Broadband connection. Had sold off my extra ADSL wifi router just 2 weeks back ! - - thinking that my Tata broadband will be shifted to Bandra (E), but Tata says they don't have technical feasibility in my building. So had to get a new MTNL broadband connection which strangely comes without WiFi router (even though I had selected type IV wireless CPE while booking) So I need a router which is easy to configure for MTNL and most importantly has Good wifi range - across 1-2 walls. Are any of these good: TP-LINK , BUFFALO (this one seems to configure itself automatically on selecting ISP as MTNL) or D-LINK (this is the model i had & sold off i think - it was pretty good but above two are cheaper and have better 'looks' /brand)

Buying two of these and gifting 1 to Dr Genius. With the images in his post, such air cooling facility is direly needed to maintain decorum in my office & his clinic/hospital.
  14. Poll: Top Smartphones For 2013

Yay, my Blackberry Z10 seems to be winning ! Approximately. **wakes up from day dream**
  15. Reliance GSM Network in Pune & Maharashtra

Have shifted home to Bandra East WEH and I am finding that RGSM gives me 6-7 Mbps at home while Vodafone remains on Edge most of the time Though, just on the other side of the WEH, both give me 4-5 Mbps speeds.
  16. Handset Launches - News Snippets

So true. Instead of being a premium brand, galaxy is becoming more like a commodity. Samsung should have had completely different sub brand and different LOOKS for their range, otherwise its no use paying 30-40K when it looks same as their 10-15K phone.
  17. Connecting to Linux while Android is booted on the phone will only show MTP - to the best of my knowledge. To avoid MTP you have to be in CWM/Recovery mode. See this tomshardware link for rooting S4 - I don't have S4 so i can't say if that's the best way or not. Maybe some android gurus can tell better.
  18. Even for MTP devices when the OS is not loaded and you have only booted to Clockwork Recovery mode then you can mount the internal drive as USB Storage. You do need to install CWM first and then boot to recovery and navigate the CWM menu to mount usb storage. Install the ROM Manger App and then run the app and select download and flash latest CWM Recovery. Then reboot the phone while holding volume buttons OR select reboot to recovery in the ROM manager app if that appears (I don't remember if that appears in free or paid ver) Phone will show an android logo and a small menu (which is navigated by pressing volume up/down buttons and pressing home button for 'enter') Look for mount usb storage and select that. Ensure you have phone connected to PC first and you have drivers.
  19. ^ Yes, mounting as USB storage and then running recovery software is the only option There are some apps to mount as USB storage that I use for Nexus 7. Similar ones should be there for S4. Worst case, install the app (i have forgotten all android app names now, been on z10 for some months so..) which lets you install different ROMs and where you boot while pressing the volume keys etc to get into RECOVERY mode. Then there is an option to mount internal memory as USB storage and it appears on PC. The app is made by some Kaushik or someone and is very famous but the name eludes me right now. EDIT: App is called Clockwork Mod Recovery. Once you are in its boot menu (and you have all drivers installed) it will let you mount as usb storage (since the OS is not yet loaded so there's no MTP issue) EDIT 2: See here for apps to mount as usb mass storage for Samsung Devices ( http://www.xda-developers.com/android/usb-mass-storage-app-for-recent-samsung-devices/ ) You may already have tried these but if not then See here Sorry, I am in the middle of some work so haven't checked the links, but they 'look' promising. REMEMBER - Try to avoid running the phone for anything except recovery. Best is to install CWM first and copy/backup the whole partition to some file. In case things go wrong I'll post how to mount that file as a partition and try recovery on that. Best of Luck.
  20. Where can we buy this phone ? preferably online ? I need one to play around with android sometimes. Nexus S is too slow now.
  21. I need to put in house before giving on rent. Should I still go for invertor ones ? Cheapest LG 1 ton split models are 27k, samsung 24K while invertor ones start at 39K for LG If I go for multi split ones like this LG model, then for 41k i can get 2 ton external unit with TWO internal units.
  22. Any suggestions for low priced split ACs - need 3 nos of 1 ton split ACs
  23. ^ I have this model lying new & unused with me for last 2-3 months. You can pay whatever you want, just PM me. Bought it from Reliance Digital when Tata Indicom was not replacing my modem since a month - and they came & replaced modem same day I bought this one.
