Personally saying, if you are ready to wait, try waiting for 2-3 months before committing for a new connection. By then other providers will also be changing to 2mbps. Some might come with unlimited itself.

BSNL biggest issue is customer care. Yucky one..

I think they are far too erratic this season to take any heart from these results.

BSNL broadband is going down towards quality in general terms..

To be more clear the 2mbps upgrade has just downgraded the speed of browsing..

Guess they have again overloaded their nodes than their capacity (just as they did with mobiles few time back), all gateways are often on high ping latency and hence doesnt give enough performance (even to that of earlier 256kbps).

While download in a download manager which opens 10-20 connections for a file, speed is fine (still loosing 30kb/s + for a fact)

But hope the cope with the situation soon :)

Im in Poona on the home 900 unlimited plan ...and since the proposed upgrade, my connection often behaves worse than a dial up ...especially during the day. Only very late in the night does the speed usually catch up...

A dozen complaints to the technical help desk have not made any difference. In fact the number is almost permanently engaged. You cant get worse customer care than BSNL. Previously, at least the connection used to work fine ....but not anymore! :)

@raccoon: same here...browsing is dead slow...downloading is just OK...

@cracker: which plan?

The problem might be simply in capacity. Ever since they opened up their bandwidth... they have probably been overwhelmed with new connections and simple cannot handle the load.

Either you dint notice the change or it was the same for you throughout.

I aint saying it is damn slow but compared to what i had it is slow.

Regarding tweaks i have it all. DNS i run my own dns here, then even with firefox tweaks doesnt make any change.

Leaving all these tweaks i had mentioned to you about high ping latency (only during day time), ping hikes from 800-1000+ <-- that is what is causing delay(atleast in my case). BSNL Cust. Care has never heard of a word "ping" so it doesnt help me dealing with cust. care.

@Ashokjp i am getting 2 good speed it takes 1 second to open digg.com which is one of the most busiest site in the world so it is slow.

if u r getting slow surfing speed than my assumption is u r either on unlimited plan (bsnl has reduced the overall speed of unlimited plan) or there r lost of bsnl users in ur area

btw open dns is leader in dns technology use any dns (private or public) it can not beast the query speed of opendns as they r leader in that technology!

AFAIK only unlimited plan customers are getting slower speeds: slower than their usual speed of 256kbps...All others have been upgraded...

I have been using UL900 Plus and I am not seeing any significant increase or decrease of speed after this 2Mbps upgrade came into effect. I am not sure how people say BSNL reduced speed and all….
