LG Nexus 5 (world phone + 5" + KitKat + snapdragon 800)

nexus5fcc.png

Looks like the Nexus 5 will be made by LG after all. The device with model number as D820 passed through FCC. The back of the device lines up with the image of Nexus 5 from the KitKat unveiling video.

Nexus-5-leak-KitKat-unveiling-video-high

nexus-5-580x397-540x369.jpg

Below are the specs listed for FCC approval:-

  • 5-inch display (4.96-inch, to be exact)
  • 131.9mm tall and 68.2mm wide (smaller than Nexus 4 but bigger screen)
  • 7-band LTE bands 2/4/5/17/25/26/41 – which means it should work with LTE on AT&T, T-Mobile & Sprint (no Verizon)
  • CDMA / EVDO rev A
  • pentaband DC-HSPA+
  • quadband GSM / EDGE (World phone)
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • NFC
  • Wi-Fi dual-band 802.11 b/g/n/ac
  • Wireless Charging
  • Non-Removable battery (2300 mah only)
  • Snapdragon 800 quad-core at 2.3 GHz and 2GB of RAM
  • 13 megapixel camera

nexus5fcca.png

image-300x278.png

The software version listed is “aosp_hammerhead-userdebugKyeLimePieFACTORYeng.sangjoon84.lee.20130618.015154.” It looks like changing the name of next version of Android to KitKat was a rather late call. The processor on this thing points to a Snapdragon 800 SoC.

HTC One Max leaks out with Verizon badge front-and-centerverizononema.jpg

When HTC launched the HTC Mini+, everyone wondered when the company would release a phone large enough to justify buying a companion device. These images, from Android Central's forums, makes the arrival of the 6-inch HTC One Max that much more of a foregone conclusion. The anonymous Verizon employee who took the pics also says that the large smartphone does indeed carry a fingerprint scannerand a removable back. Still, if we're at the point where conspicuously carrier-branded devices are leaking out already, it can't be long before an official release, right?

Samsung launches the first curve display handset...

Samsung debuts world's first curved display smartphone

Source: CNET

The phone maker officially unveils the Galaxy Round -- a flexible smartphone with an HD display that is said to curve to the contours of a person's face.

F_003_R-Perspective_1_610x407.jpg

Samsung has won the race to be the first phone manufacturer to launch a flexible smartphone. The company announced late Tuesday evening that the Galaxy Round incorporates the latest in flexible screen technology, along with other unique features.

The device resembles the Galaxy S3 and S4, but it has slight dip in the middle that causes the phone to curve along a vertical axis. The phone's body itself is rigid, so it doesn't exactly flex or bend -- but rather has a stationary curve that is said to fit the contours of a person's face. The company says that this curvature lets users controls their apps, music, and photos more easily.

"As a result of its unique curved design, users can take advantage of round integration experiences like the Roll Effect that enables user to check information such as date, time, missed call and battery easily when home screen is off, and the Gravity Effect for creating visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device," Samsung wrote in a statement. "When the Galaxy Round's display is off while the music player is running, a short press to the left of the device will play the previous track while a short press to the right will play the next track. For pictures and videos, the Side Mirror feature enables users to gain access to list of the album content with a left and right tilt."

The Galaxy Round has a 5.7-inch 1080p screen that has an HD Super AMOLED display. The device is 7.9mm thick, weighs 154g, and has a 2800mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3, has 3GB of RAM, and a 2.3GHz quad-core processor. The smartphone also has a 13-megapixel camera.

Rumors have been floating the last few weeks that Samsung was working on a flexible display smartphone; and photos of the device even leaked on the Web earlier today.

The product release comes as Samsung faces a slowdown in its core smartphone market. This means the company must find other ways to wow buyers and get them to pay for new devices. A curved display could be one factor that attracts those consumers.

Curved displays, however, are not entirely new to the market. Nokia and Apple have reportedly been working on curved displays for years, and LG recently announced that it plans to launch its first bendable smartphone dubbed the G Flex within a few weeks.

The Galaxy Round will first launch in South Korea in "Luxury Brown" and more colors are forthcoming. It's not yet clear when the company plans to launch the smartphone internationally.

HTC One Max to be exclusive to Vodafone in the UK

HTC officially announced its first phablet, the One Max today. The Taiwanese manufacturer did not reveal much about the availability and the pricing details of the phablet, but they are no longer a mystery.

Vodafone will be getting exclusive access to the HTC One Max in the UK, where the phablet will be up for grabs later this week. The carrier offers the One Max with a 24-month Vodafone Red 4G-ready plan, charging you £49 upfront and £47 per month.

gsmarena_001.jpg

The Red 4G plan comes with 2 GB of data a month and Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV. We expect the carrier to offer a few more plans, but the pricing on the One Max on those is yet to be confirmed. As a promotional campaign, Vodafone is also increasing the data allowance of up to 6 GB for all its customers who sign up before October 31.

The pricing set by Vodafone mean that the HTC One Max costs exactly as much as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which is the current phablet to beat. We are yet to see if the HTC device has what it takes to prevail in this battle.
