Hi Friends,

For Sure, "Rang De Basanti" makes a good sense amidst all the other crap that is made these days. I guess (in my opinion, not meant to hurt others interests) but one of the two holds true :

Either

1. The Cinema has lost it's kindda original purpose to portray all aspects of the society to the common man (I guess they started with that to bring the nation into unity, sharing values that benefit the society). And lo we've entered into the age of nudity, Don's, goon's and illicit relations in every next movie.

OR

2. People's approach to appropriate that what is portrayed in those movies has changed. They've started enjoying to receive the negative values and living them for pleasure rather than concentrating to the bitter end that they should watch and avoid.

Well, short but tried to keep it sweet! And sincere apologies to whomsoever if hurt!

To cheer up on my part : For MP3/RAM sound tracks of RDB or any other movie, visit :

http://bollyfm.net

Enjoy the music. Some files are low quality (32Kbps). In that case, get a Bitrate convertor from Google and increase Bitrate to get high quality audio.

Cheers to the nation for this wonderful movie.

Dave.

On the same note, I have this letter of the President of India for his felow countrymen(got it in mail today), go through it and tell me what you feel about it. I cant validate the authenticity but it is thought provoking indeed!

I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is.

She replied: I want to live in a developed India.

For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

YOU say that our government is inefficient.

YOU say that our laws are too old.

YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.

YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke,

The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their

destination.

You say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say.

What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore.

Give him a name?

YOURS.

Give him a face?

YOURS.

YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best.

In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores.

YOU are as proud of their Underground Links as they are.

You pay $5 (approx. Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM.

YOU comeback to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over-stayed, identity.

In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai.

YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah.

YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, "see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else."

YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, "Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost."

YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand.

Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo?

Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in

Boston ?????

We are still talking of the same YOU.

YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other

countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground.

If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien

country, why cannot you be the same here in India?

Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal Commissioner of Bombay, Mr.Tinaikar, had a point to make.

"Rich people"s dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place," he said. "And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels?

In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job.

Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?"

He's right.

We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin.

We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity.

This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home.

Our excuse?

"It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my son's rights to a dowry."

So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government.

But definitely not me and YOU.

When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.

Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system.

When New York becomes insecure we run to England.

When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf.

When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government.

Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country.

Nobody thinks of feeding the system.

Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, the article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too?..

I am echoing J.F. Kennedy's words to his fellow American to relate to Indians?.

"ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY "

Lets do what India needs from us.

Thank You,

Dr. Abdul Kalaam

However, does it really matters??? The message conveyed is indeed thought provoking as Tanveer said. :(

Yeah...i had read this letter a long time back...before rang de basanti was out...any my conclusion at that time was:-

Who says that v r not supportive....dont v drool at the perfect place and comeon, the incidents given here are crapped....does the only thing that matters is that i clean up my dogs **** or that did i complain that my city is not clean....Atleast I never do that..

Dont v guys generate better employment and a better world to live in? and ya...the generation has started to look inside than outside since quite a long time now...

What the letter does is also blaming others instead of looking at the corruption and the taciturned politics that play within.....Consider this:-

Salary & Govt. Concessions for a Member of Parliament (MP)

Monthly Salary : 12,000

Expense for Constitution per month : 10,000 Office expenditure per month : 14,000

Traveling concession (Rs. 8 per km) : 48,000 (For a visit to Delhi &

return: 6000 km)

Daily BETA during parliament meets : 500

Charge for 1 class (A/C) in train : Free (For any number of times) (All over India)

Charge for Business Class in flights : Free for 40 trips / year (With wife or P.A.)

Rent for MP hostel at Delhi : Free

Electricity costs at home : Free up to 50,000 units

Local phone call charge : Free up to 1,70,000 calls.

TOTAL expense for a MP per year : 32,00,000

TOTAL expense for 5 years : 1,60,00,000

For 534 MPs, the expense for 5 years : 8,54,40,00,000 (nearly 855 cores) And they are elected by THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, by the largest democratic process in the world, not intruded into the parliament on their own or by any qualification.

This is how all our tax money is been swallowed and price hike on our regular commodities.......

Think of the great democracy we have.............

Look its a collective responsibility,

Inspite of all these allowances and all they still take petty bribes as low as 10000.

This letter is not to absolve the politicians but to emphasise that each one of us has a responsibilty and a sincerity of effort is required from each one of us be it politicians, police, armymen, or common citizens like us.

It is so veryconvenient to blame everyone else but are we 100% certain that we are completely honest and clean in our intent?

@theking.....You are doing the same, critisizing the system...if you really feel so desperate, you yourself should get into the politics and clean it up..set an example by saying a big NO to all these privileges and perks...its very easy to critisize. If you really want to make a difference, you yourself need to take the first step and that's what the letter above and the movie RDB conveys.

Welcome back dacodecz, long time no hear,

As far as inspiration is concerned, do we only need to read foreign books and biographies to be inspired?

Dont we have examples of some of the legends in history (kings etc.) getting inspired by things as insignificant as an ant or a spider?

They werent living in a stone age were they?

The point is not that what is going to awaken people, rather are people ready to awaken?

Are we ready to accept the inconveniences and hardships if everything goes by the book?

If everytime you were pulled up for jumping a red light you were charged 500, and the policeman wont budge to let you aaway with a petty bribe, wont you feel maybe it would have been better if he would have taken some bribe?

We dont want everyone in this country to be educated because then, who would sweep your homes and wash your clothes? Who is going to drive your family around when you are not free?

We all have grown in this system and have accepted it and got used to it, and whats worse is, maybe we dont want to change it.

Giving and taking bribes, finding a way around the rules to suit ourselves, hasnt that become our way of life?

They say people of a nation get the government they deserve, and so is the case with the system.

We have a bad government because we let criminals be a part of the government.

Oh you didnt? They are not related to you?

They arent related to me either but then they are related to some average Indian, but an Indian none the less.

They havent come from afghanistan or middle east?

We have allowed them to breed, yes it was the law, the police that protected them, but then even they stem from this society as well.

So werent we silent spectators when these people were taking democracy hostage?

I dont have solutions but for some time now, I have stopped blaming the system, because I am a part of the system, I am corrupted by the system, I am not entirely honest, so how can I criticise someone who is corrupt as well, though to higher degree?

Everyone out is trying to make a difference but after some time, things get on to a monotonous mode and then is the time to catch up with the phoenix....regenerate !...untill then, change is abstract...

Stuck in a maze, always searching for a way out...its like the fly whom u can c that can come throught the door but is struggling through the closed window!...and still u cant help or rather dont want to, and would prefer to c it struggling and hitting hard...thats the broader perspective i guess..

Just saw the movie yesterday. It has made my blood boil more than ever before. The politicians lie and lie, everyone knows the truth, and politicians too know that the public know the truth, but still they lie and go scott free. And from our part, we see things are going wrong but can hardly do anything without risking our lives. If we need to set right our system, we cannot set it right without giving up our lives or career and family. The big guys can get us any time, in any part of our lives, be it harassing the family, messing up with our job, or even murder. The best example of today is perpetrators of the murder of a leading model in Delhi being acquitted.

Well, the inspiration I got was that whatever cannot be set right by the system should be settled outside the system and silently, without anyone knowing, who's doing it.

Mr. Kalyan Prince, you always agree with everyone yaar!

...But i beg to differ from you, you say that India wont be a developed country fro atleast a century!!! Well, i say that i will be a developed country by the year 2020. And i mean it. This is what i say, but the what many emminent economists have quoted.

So, come back to this forum and read this in the year 2020 and then see whether i was true or not.
